Cakewalk Pyro - flagged as having a virus

I posted this before, no responses - I just now got another totally random alert from Avast that Pyro has a virus, it's been moved to the Virus Chest. If I try to initiate the program, Windows says it can't comply because there's a virus in the program.--- What the...?! RB

I would actually report this to Avast before Cakewalk, it could very well be a false positive. I had an alleged spyware issue with a program installer a few years ago through Malware Bytes, I reported it to them and they must have fixed it in an update because it went away shortly after.

Thanks, Emwhy - I hadn't ever reported to Avast before, but just now found the email to use, and sent them the info. --I don't really need Pyro, but it's annoying to have it flagged as being infected. RB

I just tried to install Google Chrome because Firefox 6 is totally incompatible with ( and only) this forum software. Microsoft security essentials popped up in the final stages of install and reported malicious software and moved it to the vault on me,, no choice even. So I gave up. I remember back in the early years you were always instructed to disable anti virus before installing any software. Trouble now is a lot of installs involve downloading and "phone home" so anti virus is not happy. Just disable your AV, install software and carry on. I don;t even have internet on my DAW so it can't "phone home".

False positives aren't uncommon. I've had virus scanners tell me that my own software - that I wrote myself - was a virus. I don't use Avast! but most virus scanners allow you to whitelist individual files and/or folders. Just tell it to skip the Pyro folder when it scans.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks for the reply, David - This happens so rarely for me. I "whitelisted" the file in Avast - but as it turns out, Pyro is something I really don't need since it's not even compatible with a 64 bit system. It's the only thing in Cakewalk that Avast flagged, so all is well enough. RB
