Cakewalk Sound Center NOT showing up
Here's what I did: 1) Installed MC5 from Factory Disk 2) Registered MC5 Cakewalk Sound Center (CSS) does NOT show on the list, when I click ADD TRACK-> INSTRUMENT TRACK, or INSERT SOFT SYNTH(in Loop Explorer View) I checked, and it HAS been installed in my Programs/VST folder, and the Programs/Cakewalk folder. I also was able to run CSS in a separate VST Host program I have, with no problem. 3) Ran "Music_Creator_5.0.5.exe" Update (70.5 MB) Then opened MC5 and checked version, which was now 5.0.5.6 4) Registered AmpliTube plug-in 5) Added (copy and replace) "Music Creator 505 Project Templates" (2.12 MB) 6) Not sure where I got this file (can't find the link anymore), but I next ran "Cakewalk Sound Center Patch.exe" (v1.1.0) (19.1 MB) Was this a mistake? CSS still does NOT show up. I found one more file I had downloaded a few weeks ago(but can't find the link?), called "MC505Patch.exe" (51.3 MB) Should I install this? I had the SAME problem, with CSS not showing up, when I had installed MC5LE. I had completely uninstalled MC5LE, before installing MC5. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I think you should install all updates and patches. Under the Insert menu, do you have the sub-menu 'Insert From Track Template>Instruments'? I have a similar glitch with SONAR Home Studio 6 running in 32-bit mode on a 64-bit computer where the TTS-1 synth doesn't show on the list, but if I insert one of the instruments from the 'Insert Track Template' menu it will insert TTS-1 and I can use it. It wasn't that way when I first installed SHS 6, but sometime after that I also installed the 64-bit version of SHS 6 and it seems to have messed up something, even though I subsequently removed SHS 64-bit.

Look around in the Cakewalk folder and in the Program Files folder... can you find the Cakewalk Sound Center folder? Did it actually get installed? I'm guessing it did but it's not in a "default" location where MC is looking for it. Simply find where it is located and then go to the PLUG IN MANAGER and add it to the VST list, then run a manual scan. No need to move the folder, BUT, you can cut & copy or drag it to the Cakewalk VST folder and run the scan.

In my case, Herb, that didn't work. I manually added the folder. I moved the TTS-1 to the VST folder. I copied it to the VST plug-in folder. I did everything I could think of to get TTS-1 to show up in the Insert>Soft Synths list but it never appears in the list after scanning. It does appear in the Soft Synths list when right-clicking in a track's FX bin. And yet by using the workaround mentioned above, it will insert. Plus, I can't even remove SHS 6 from the computer in order to re-install it. I get an Action Denied message. Weird, but not a problem since I mainly use SHS as a reference, not for recording on this computer.

Firstly, I thank you all for your help. Gregy, I ran the "Cakewalk Sound Center Patch.exe" (v1.1.0) (19.1 MB) update. Unfortunately, CSC is still not in the list. Yes, I do have: Insert->Insert from Track Template->Instruments->Bass, Brass,........Percussion,Woodwinds Some Instruments loaded a TTS-1 track, and some loaded a Cakewalk Sound Center (CSC) track. I didn't try every Instrument yet, but the ones I found that load CSC, are: Drums - Acoustic Kick and Snare, Stereo Cymbals Woodwinds - Fairy Tale Flute, Pan Flute, Percussion - Congas, Rain Stick Pads - Analog Sweep, Blade Combo, Psaltry Harp Bowed HOWEVER, TWO wierd things happen: 1) these Instruments that load a CSS track, ALL always FIRST give this message, BEFORE loading: "IDS_GENERIC_ERROR not found in text resource file!" with a LOUD DING sound (very annoying) 2) the Instrument PRESET is NOT loaded. You have to manually select the Preset you want in the CSC icon. You must ALSO remember, that if you go over the MC5 plugin limit, to Delete some synths in the "Preview Synth" window of the Loop Explorer View, or you will get this message: "Loading Track Template would have exceeded Music Creator limits. Load failed." Guitarhacker, It appears CSC has been installed. Here are the locations: C:/Program Files/Cakewalk/Cakewalk Sound Center (contains unins00.dat, unins000.exe, unins001.dat, unins001.exe, and Documentation folder) C:/Program Files/Vstplugins/Cakewalk Sound Center (contains CSC.dll v1.1.0.12, and Documentation, Modules, and Resources folders) I also ran this CSC.dll in another host, and it worked. C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Cakewalk/Cakewalk Sound Center(contains Midi Learn and Programs folders)

Yes, the workaround works, but is VERY annoying because of the Loud sound when the "IDS_GENERIC_ERROR..." message appears. Plus, you have to manual select the preset after it loads. If I have to, I can live with the Preset issue, but NOT the "IDS...." DING sound. Can't Cakewalk fix this bug? or have they given up and moved on to MC6?

I get the error too on some things.... I'd like to know what the reason for it is.... but no ding noise with it. I just click OK or whatever, and it goes away and the project loads. If you have sound, that's the important part.... now you can at least record, and work on fixing the "bugs" in the way things work.

If I have to, I can live with the Preset issue, but NOT the "IDS...." DING sound. Can't Cakewalk fix this bug? or have they given up and moved on to MC6? well, it's not really a "bug." it should not be giving you the IDS_GENERIC_ERROR, but that's not a bug because it doesn't happen to everyone else - it's something wrong with the installation of CSC on your particular system. the preset issue is probably due to the "IDS GENERIC ERROR" also. My guess is that if you get that fixed, the preset issue will be a non-issue. at this point, my best advice to you would be to completely wipe out the installation of MC and CSC and start over. but to completely wipe it out, you'd need to edit the registry and delete all references to Music Creator, Cakewalk and "Sound Center" it might be best, however, before trying that, to contact tech support with your particular issue. send them an email - you can't call tech support for MC, it's not supported - only email support.

I've noticed that the IDC error show up once. When I open a project for the first time in X1 that was created in a former version. Once I open the project and save in it X1, the error doesn't show again.

We have a comprehensive KB article on our site that explains why this happens, and workarounds. http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007012921 I hope this information is helpful, and thanks for your continued support of Music Creator. IF ONLY I had waited another day for your response. Two days ago, I COMPLETELY deinstalled MC5, after unintentionally somehow losing some Cakewalk Pitch shifting plugins, and also some random COMPLETE crashing of MC5. I deinstalled, and tried to delete everything Cakewalk related. I will reinstall, and let you know if everything works properly this time (fingers crossed). AND definitely followup with your support department, when necessary. Your Cakewalk support is superb!

Samara, I finally got around to reinstalling MC5 from scratch. I also ran the "Music_Creator_5.0.5.exe" (70.5 MB) which updated MC5 to version 5.0.5.6. While it was updating, I saw icons flashing by, saying MC505patch, and Cakewalk Sound Center 1.1.0 Afterward, I check my VST folder and saw that the Cakewalk Sound Center dll was version 1.1.0.12 I also installed the updated MC505 Project Templates. Now I stopped here, because I am NOT sure whether or not it is necessary to run the separate "Cakewalk Sound Center Patch.exe" (v1.1.0) (19.1 MB) and the "MC505Patch.exe (51.3 MB). Were this already part of the 70.5 MB "_Creator_5.0.5.exe" that I ran? Please let me know. Aside from that, I am very happy, because Cakewalk Sound Center is showing up, and with NO error messages! So far, so good. Thank you.

If it's working I'd say no, if you have installed the update 5.0.5.6 and life is good, I'd let it roll. I know that the update 5.0.5.6 on my DAW added a number of new CSC sounds that were not there before.

Guitarhacker sounds like you're ready to rock! Well, NOT yet exactly. ASIO4all now causes a complete freeze of MC5, so I deinstalled it. Out of laziness, and a desire for as simple a setup as possible, I was hoping to use my cheap internal AC97 soundcard and ASIO4All. So I'm back to MME(32 bit), since WDM/KS doesn't work on my system.

You never want to use the "cheap internal AC97 soundcard" .... ASIO4ALL is a wrapper of sorts that fools the system into thinking it has an ASIO driver .... or something like that... the point is, it's fake. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. A better solution is to buy a decent soundcard/interface that is designed to do audio recording AND uses ASIO drivers.

I can reinstall my PCI audio interface that I had removed last year, when I upgraded my memory. I never put it back in, because I was considering selling it, to possibly get a mixer that has a soundcard built-in, like Behringer makes. My other option is to use my laptop's USB interface, but I would prefer not having to go back and forth from laptop to desktop, every time I want to use it. I have to decide one or the other, at this point. It stinks being lazy.

MC54PC I can reinstall my PCI audio interface that I had removed last year...................... to possibly get a mixer that has a soundcard built-in, like Behringer makes. My other option is to use my laptop's USB interface, but I would prefer not having to go back and forth from laptop to desktop, every time I want to use it. So what "other" sound card/interfaces do you have? Obviously the PCI is for a desktop PC...... then you mentioned a lappy USB interface. Could you give details on what they are? I have ONE firewire interface. I simply installed the software for it on both my lappy and my custom DAW so I'm able to switch back and forth if I desire simply by unplugging from one and into the other. If the USB is a decent interface, use it. I would never even consider trying to use my lappy sound card in place of the Saffire. That is just out of the question. If the Saffire ever dies, I will be at the store or online ordering up a new interface as quickly as possible. It might not be a firewire Saffire but it will certainly be a decent interface. BTW: check the interface specs carefully. Some have nice pre-amps in them and you do not need a mixer at all..... and others require either a mixer or a pre-amp of some sort. I would not consider a mixer with a built in interface. I like separate components. My Saffire has some really nice pre's on the inputs and I recommend the Saffire line from Focusrite heartily.

Thanks guys. OK, I have a Lexicon Alpha USB interface for my laptop. I did extensive research and it was the best USB interface for $60 and under, considering quality and features (possibly still is?) http://www.lexiconpro.com/product.php?id=7 Yes, the mic preamp isn't the best, but many times I am using more than one mic to record an acoustic instrument, so I'm using my mixer's preamps anyway. (I was using the LE version of Cubase 4 that came with it. Worked OK, but I hated Cubase. It simply cannot compare to the user friendliness and elegance of MC5. Plus Cubase's staff view is just down right horrible. MC5 is the PC's closest thing to Mac's garbage band. I really don't know why Cakewalk never marketed it, as such. That's how Mixcraft markets their program, and I've tried their demo, which was just too CPU hungry for my system. From what I could tell, MC5 still is superior in user friendliness, plus it can host BOTH DX and VST, plus it's less expensive. A no brainer IMHO.) I have the tower and laptop at different locations, so plugging/unplugging the USB is not as big as issue, as dragging along the mixer, and plugging into a different amp system, taking along ac adapters, cables, etc. Too much, for a lazy person like me. LOL The PCI is the M-Audio 2496. No complaints. Possibly still the best PCI card for under $100. Guitarhacker, I think I may take your advice and skip the combo mixer/audio interface; and reinstall the PCI card. I am always striving for the BEST in the "cheapest price" category.

both the lexicon alpha and the m-audio 2496 are good soundcard with good drivers. both are listed on my website as recommendations.
