Cakewalk Sound Center not accepting selected instrument

I am a newbie using Roland a-500s and Sonar LE. I go into the cakewalk sound center, choosing PIANO, Acoustic, Hall. When I press a key, it sounds like some type of accompaniment. But not a piano. When I select any other instrument and press a key, it still sounds the same... no difference between a guitar, piano, bass, etc. When I go to PRESETS in the sound center, it only lets me choose DEFAULT. My 'piano' appears as an option but won't let me choose it. Any ideas?

Attempting to use midi keyboard controller to play piano after years of acoustic piano playing.

Every instrument needs a MIDI channel of its own, otherwise all instruments using, say, MIDI channel 1 respond to commands given on that channel.

I've never used Sound Center so I can't go to details.

I "pointed to a direction" about using soft synths in your other thread.

I strongly advice you put your system specs in your signature. You should give them every time you ask something.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
