@ Cakewalk Support, Upgrade confusion

I emailed Cakewalk Order Support, which replied (2012/08/23):
"...If you waited to upgrade when it (X2) was released, it would cost you €99.00.  If you upgraded to the Production Suite for €80 today, you would add the Expander/Gate and Z3TA+2 as well as qualify for the free X2 upgrade.  There is no "early adopter" discount as far as I know..."

I replied (2012/08/23): "...In the price announcement, there is: '...we also have a special offer for early adopters, which we will let you know about once we start taking orders...'..."

Cakewalk Order Support replied: "...That has yet to be revealed. It will most likely not be an additional monetary discount. Those prices listed will be the upgrade prices. It could be some sort of additional free download, but you'll get that wether you wait to get X2 or get the Production Suite now..."

Due to this information, I upgraded to X1 production Suite, knowing I'll qualify for the free upgrade to X2 Producer, as well as getting "that" (the early adopters' special, which could be some sort of additional free download...)

2012/09/05 Cakewalk revealed the "early adopters special", the free download of Symphonic Strings for people who buy into the Pre-Sale.

I felt kind of Cakewalk tricked on me, so I replied the Cakewalk Order Support (2012/09/05):
"...due to your mailed info: '...you'll get that (early adopters special) wether you wait to get X2 or get the Production Suite now...' I bought Production Suite. As the early adopters special is revealed - DSF Strings - it seems to me that only buyers of the X2 pre-sale get it? I hope I'm wrong on this?..."

I still haven't got any answer.
Similar issues in other threads are left unanswered.

So here I am, asking kindly about a statement regarding this situation.

Thanks

There is also the issue of currency conversion. I don't mean to be sarcastic but the kind of mathematics it takes to program Sonar involves a bunch of super geniuses. So I don't know why they're getting their maths so wrong.

If you notice the USD, EUR, and GBP it's 99, 99 and 79 respectively.

    EUR99 and GBP79 both convert to USD125 not 99.

It's not a matter of money for those who, like me, have X1 Prod Exp (even though we already forked out the upgrade money), the different is around 20 to 30 Euros.

But those upgrading with the highest price tag of 399, 399 and 319 (USD, EUR, GBP respectively) are actually paying 503 dollars (for euro) and 508 (for British pounds).

Why Europeans should pay more is beyond me.

I can't speak for all of Europe, but the British price includes V.A.T.

German price, too, and it's up to Cakewalk to charge whatever they want.
Still this thread is about something different, please stay on topic, or open a new thread for your questions.

So, back on topic, dear Cakewalk, your support site is still broken, just tried to reach you again, you might want to call me on the phone on this.

Or give a statement here in this thread.

    Thank you

    1. Yes it's up to CW to charge whatever they want as long as everybody is being charged the same price. The fact that I forgot about VAT is MY fault. Still the argument applies.

    2. Chill a bit mate. It wasn't exactly about your topic specifically - I was adding a thought to what you said about feeling "cheated".

Seriously....DOES YOUR MARKETING TEAM THINK THESE THINGS THROUGH?
Does your Customer Support THINK about what they say?

We were told when we bought in that AS SOON AS it's available you'll get yours,
and that we'd be entitled to these things..

Well...if the Serial Numbers are available...we should have ours..
If you're going to sell Media...we should be able to buy
If you're going to sell upgrades to new products...we should be able to buy
WITHOUT HAVING TO JUMP THROUGH 10,000 HOOPS!

Even after now 2 days of waiting for a response from Customer Service...
    NOTHING...because they know a SH*TSTORM is brewing...

Just my 2cents but... maybe give cw a chance to respond? Obviously they didn't have their internal message set in respects to the issues raised but no doubt with all the posts it's on their radar now. Most likely they are (in addition to all the normal mayhem a new sw release entails) scrambling to figure an equitable way forward. Some people obviously got verbal confirmation... I tried in a few threads (and in an email to cw support) to get a written statement one way or the other to no avail. And if you look at the old webpage (in google cache) it is clearly stated "Starting August 1st through October 31st when you purchase Sonar X1 Production Suite..." which implies that the option would remain in place until 10/31.

Back in the pre-Roland days they were usually pretty good about trying to make things right with their customers when things went off the rails. Hopefully they'll come through this time but until they make an official statement one way or the other it's probably not worth blowing a fuse over. They screwed up in not clearly stating their policy up front (important in the sw business), I'm sure they realize it, and hopefully they'll address it soon. Until then maybe give them a little bit of the benefit of the doubt... if they don't come through then lesson learned all around (which if you're that pissed may mean a different DAW) but maybe they'll come up with something to make everybody happy. Let’s wait and see....

disclaimer: the above is not directed to anyone in particular.

    cclarry,

I think everyone is getting what they ordered.  Your deal was buy now and get X2 free.  You are getting that.  The pre-sale thingey going on now is a different promo.  These pre-sale folks are getting their SN and a pack of strings.  I don't see anything wrong with that.  You are getting the deal you signed up for, which is X1 and X2 free.  The fact that it was a few days back doesn't mean that you get BOTH deals.

Calling it a travesty of fairness is a little much.  They are two separate promotions.  You got one, and now this is a different one going on now.

You will get it when it becomes available.  These pre-sale folks are buying into a different deal, their deal is that it's available for them now, but not everyone else.  Realistically -you got the better deal.  You got two programs for the price of 1.

    Just my 2cents

    Hi Everyone,

I'm not personally qualified to deal with addressing marketing & sales strategies/promotions etc. (we've had some killer deals the past few months that had some very specific guidelines about when they started and ended so customers could determine whether or not they felt they were worth taking advantage of). What I can reply to, however, are concerns regarding obtaining downloads and serial numbers when X2 is available.

People who are owed a copy of SONAR X2 will fall into two different categories:
    1. Those who purchased X1 during the last promotion and are eligible for a free upgrade to X2. If you purchased this deal, you essentially got a promotional price and saved a little cash as you fell into the older upgrade structure. You also got a copy of SONAR X1 to use until X2 is released. We're not going to charge you extra to get X2. It's free for you. The day X2 is available to the general public we will send everyone instructions on how to go about it.  Essentially you will be "purchasing" it for zero dollars which will generate serial numbers and download links to your Cakewalk store account.
    2. Those who purchase X2 during this new pre-sale promotion. The added incentive is that by taking advantage of this new pre-sale offer you will be getting X2 a day earlier then everyone else. X2 Producer owners will also get the DSF Symphonic Strings library now.  Serial numbers are already being generated for SONAR X2 for "pre-sale purchases". This allows us to flip a switch to activate your downloads without you having to go through any more "purchasing" steps. When SONAR X2 is ready, the downloads will show up and we will notify qualified individuals that they are ready to go.
One other thing I would like to make clear:

If you purchased SONAR X1 Producer or Production Suite during the last promotion, when SONAR X2 Producer is available you will be receiving a free download to SONAR X2 Producer. Technically, this also qualifies you for this promotion, so you will also get the DSF Symphonic Strings HD expansion pack in your Cakewalk account. Anyone in this category will receive their downloads to this DSF pack as soon as they register SONAR X2 to their Cakewalk account on or after launch day.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion for you folks.

    Best regards,

Quite confusing and chaotic timed promotions, but now it's clear...

I have bought just about all CW software through the years. At present I have all their synths and all their plugins.  When I bought FX3 Sound Stage it cost me $89. Now they are giving it away free. Does that bother me? Not in the slightest. I got good service out of it and now those that didn't get it can do so now at no cost.

At present I have X1 Producer Expanded that I pay extra for. All those that buy X2 will get it at no extra cost including you. Does that upset me? NO!. I knew when I bought Expanded it would most likely be rolled into X2.

You see I have had its benefits all this time and you haven't. When X2 is ready I will upgrade to it. No doubt I will pay for stuff I already have . Again that does not bother me because I have a brain and can choose or not to buy now or later. Its my choice and I am happy with it.

I don't blame CW for offering deals to its customers. If I did I would feel pretty petty. I want fellow users to enjoy their DAW. And I want CW to make an honest dollar. That is why I am not upset or thinking someone else might get a better deal. That is childish and in my view silly. I salute those that try to make the best deal they can but I don't have much respect for those that complain about not being able to get the same deal when it doesn't apply to them.

I will get Sonar X2 as soon as I am able for two reasons. The first is clear, I want it. The second is to help support my favorite software company.  In the long run I will always get what I pay for and in the way I agree to. I make a contract I expect myself and the other to abide by it. I doubt I will look at another user and be envious of what he/she was able to get. It simply is not very becoming.

Now I have no problem with a user asking for consideration if they truly feel cheated. I don't see how that would apply here, though.

If you think about it what you are really asking for is for CW to tell you in advance of all possible deals and sales way before they know about them themselves. We all know that CW has a habit of offering deals and sales. It shouldn't be a surprise when one comes along after you commit to an earlier one.

    Hi Ryan,

Thanks very much for clearing this up - it all makes sense now.

    Cheers

Ryan, I called CW last week to verify that me buying Producer Suite before Oct. 31st ensures me I get X2P free (currently X1P here).  So I get new stuff and save $20 in the process.  Verified.

I don't care about the Dim Pro expansion string thingy, but CW's whacky multi-promotions can be confusing.  My only question is was I lied to?  Sad.

    I think I'm misunderstanding you.

If you purchased SONAR X1 Production Suite and registered it within the proper time period, you'll get SONAR X2 Producer free. Check this link out again: http://www.cakewalk.com/page.aspx/Free-SONAR-X2-upgrade

Specifically, "Starting August 1 through October 31st, when you purchase SONAR X1, you will get SONAR X2 for free once it becomes available.".

When I refer to the "last promotion" versus the "current promotion", I'm referring to the promotions we're running on the Cakewalk store direct. Customers can still purchase SONAR X1 via other means (other retailers). So while the "Buy X1 get X2 free" promotion on the Cakewalk online store has now ended, if you happened to have bought SONAR X1 Producer at your local Guitar Center only to come home to find out there is a newer version available, you'd be eligible for the upgrade to X2 given you registered in that time period.

    Hopefully that makes sense.

cclarry: you bought X1 and you get X2 free when it comes out. you didn't buy X2 and get a free download of X1. Big difference buddy.

But you do realize that no other distributor sells the X1 Production Suite Upgrade (for X1 Producer customers)? If that's incorrect please let us know where to go and I think you will make a lot of people that were planning on going that route (but replied on the accuracy of the Oct 31st date on the Production Suite Upgrade page) very happy. Personally I'm sure you guys didn't "Lie" to anybody but you did probably inadvertently mislead a few customers with your wording.

Well hopefully that is settled. Geez, you guys get the Suite for a hundred bucks less, X2 for FREE AND the DSF Strings? All I gotta say is you should be MORE than happy. At the end of the day I will have paid $200 more than you guys to get all that... and I only bought the Suite in May. Poor timing on my part? For sure. Little bitter? Perhaps. Am I gonna take the plunge anyway? Yes. But yeah... little raw right now. Tell me something pretty.

    Ryan,

Can you please explain why it seems to no longer be possible to download the Production Suite upgrade through the Cakewalk store, for £70 as advertised until just a few days ago? I believed this offer was good until 31st October (as you state above) but I can no longer find any links on the store.

Well technically I've paid a load more than you, as I bought sonar 1, upgraded to 2,3,5,7,8,8.5,X1 and expanded before I bought the production suite upgrade to get the free X2 upgrade and DSF strings. I suppose I have been making music for 12 years with them though
