Cakewalk Synth Evening
Plugged in a few instruments one evening to hear what they sounded like. There is Session Drummer3, Dimension Pro, Z3TA+2 and Rapture. Every instrument was recorded in one pass and no overdubs, except SD3 which is just a loop. It kind of goes off the rails musically in a few spots but I kinda liked it. Jennifer said it reminded her of a few country guys taking a trip to the city. Not sure I can hear that but she is working on a lyric to suit. https://soundcloud.com/rebel007/8-bar-synth-exploration

I like Synths, would like to use them more. They "expand" the creative possibilities?

Technically speaking.... isn't almost everything we do now done with synths? Unless of course you are playing a guitar or a piano..... or whatever instrument it is that you play. Cool tune composition. It has a happy sound about it.

Thanks for the listen, yes I think there is a tendency nowadays to add synth lines in almost all tunes so it's good to practice with them. Glad you found the happy vibe Herb. The arrangement and melody just happened as I laid down the track Makke, it was a happy accident.

It's amazing how that tiny-sounding lead synth fills up the space so well. Interesting piece Wayne! Regards, Dan

Thanks for the listen Dan. Glad you found an interest in what was just a test of synth sounds. I guess I posted it because I also found it more than just a work piece. In fact there is something in there that is tickling the back of my brain to take it to another level and try to work it into something more than said exercise.

Nice one pass tune! And definitely an interesting combination of tones. At first I thought it was weird that the snare was puling the drums towards the right while the synths + piano were mostly the left, but I think it actually kind of works in a Beatle-esque sort of way.

I like the way this moves. If Jennifer sings it could add a lot because it is just a repetitive piece but I listened to the whole thing. There's a lot of them that I can't. A lot of cool stuff going on. Full sound.

It sounds like The Greg Kihn Band after they smoked a big fatty. I'm not trying to be mean but that's what popped in my head. I enjoyed it. Well done and I can't wait to see what you make of this.

No smoking involved, just the way my head works sometimes. Cartoon music, yes! I think you've nailed it. Now my head's going in another direction. When I'd finished playing and started mixing, the parts just kind of panned themselves until I got a balance that worked across the whole song, there is no automation on the panning as I might do in a more structured song.
