Cakewalk Turnaround Time

I got home from work around midnight Wednesday night, and decided to take advantage of the $250 upgrade to Sonar 8.5 Producer (with free X1 Producer download).
It just arrived at my office in Toronto.

Considering the time it takes to process the order, have the product shipped, clear Canada Customs, get to Toronto, and into my office before lunch (all in probably 34 hours), i'm very impressed.

Now my biggest issue is whether to finish my project before learning the differences in Producer, or to hold off until i'm done and THEN install.  Or to do my homework.  Or to get drunk and shave the cats...

    You forgot option 3.

Ignore 8.5  finish your current project using the version you know well, then go straight to X1 on Dec 8

If you install 8.5 now you'll not have learnt how to use it befor December...

    That's true Karyn.
But my PC meets the specs for Producer, but seems to only hit bare minimum for X1 (dualcore, XP, 2.5Ghz, etc).  Considering I use Sonar as a glorified tape machine (except for midi drums everything is live), i'm mainly interested in the mixing FX and routing options.  X1 might be overkill for my needs, but the free download was a deal-maker just in case i want it later.

The bakers pointed out quite early on that the revised "recomended spec" was simply based on a current "average" pc setup and not related to the requirements of X1,  which they say is about the same as 8.5

The only difference audio-wise between 8.5 and X1 is the pro-channel (if you buy the producer version). With the pro-channels turned off it is the same so you'll not get any more cpu loading than 8.5.
All the other improvements are in workflow and visuals (which are handled by your graphix card)

I just upgraded myself from Studio7, I would install 8.5 then do a vst scan in your older Cakewalk with the project in it. You will be able to use Vocal Strip, Percussion strip, Dimension Pro. Session drummer 3... in the  older program. At least that's how my upgrade went. I have opened the same project and saved with both 8.5 and 7 producer. So far no incompatibility problems.
