Cakewalk UA-1G usb adapter

I am writing because I recently purchased the Cakewalk UA-1G  usb adapter. The only concern I have with the device is being able to deterring the volume the headset output is set to. For example I like to mix/master at 50% volume. The only way to set the volume close to 50% is to count the revolutions on the dial with my finger. Doing that is very inaccurate. I would like to know if there is a hardware or software solution I can use to determine what the head set volume is set to. May be a telnet session into the USB port.
I have Linux and Windows operating systems so there is a lot I can do via USB.

Take some white nail polish and mark the lowest and highest points/notches, count to the center between those two and mark the "center" point with the white polish.

You'll only have to do that once.

Now, that might not make it "center" but you will know that you are mixing consistently.
