Cakewalk UA-25 EX constant hissing and very muffled sound???

hi I've got a Cakewalk UA-25 EX on windows 7 64bit. I've heard alot of good reviews on this product but when i play a guitar on it the sound quality is terrible (very muffled) so if i turn the sound up (on output or input sensitivity) i get a constant hissing which is starting to make me go mad or a random cracking.

I don't understand if I've made a mistake installing (downloaded the wind7 drivers from cakewalk website) or it sonar le settings (which is now on ASIO) if anyone can help id be eternally grateful thanks.

Be sure to plug the guitar into input #2 not input #1.  Set the hi-z switch on input #2 for guitar.  Adjust the input #2 Sens knob and the output of your guitar as necessary.

and be sure to crank the volume on the guitar also! I recorded a Gibson Les Paul Studio thru it and it sounded quite good!
