Cakewalk UM 2

VS-890 ie. 880ex emulation, has not returned any content in the data received in cakewalk when played back through the UM-2 midi interface from a recording I made on the VS and played back and accompanied by guitar, and basically created on the Ensoniq SD-1 sequencer.
No music in my cakewalk mc2.
Why is there no musical data...the tracks are empty.????

The Roland VS-890 is an 8 channel studio with CD-RW mastering built in, that writes songs to an attached CDR.  It can also master or slave with a PC SCSI card.
I have opted for a cakewalk UM-2G midi interface, due to the simplicity of connection, and this way I don't have to disconnect the SCSI Writer to  hook up to the computer.

I recorded the tracks I want to edit, then according to the instructions in both the 2G interface and the VS, I hooked up and played back the song tracks.  I finally got the tracks to write on the cakewalk computer screen...... but they were empty tracks.  no content.   What did I do?
