Cakewalk, Zoom H4 and ASIO4all

Hi, I'm in a quandry.  I just installed Sonar Producer, and I have a relatively old Zoom H4 (about four years old, first version).
I can't get it to record using the zoom as an audio I/O.  It functions with Acid.
When I go to Options/Audio, I can pull the ASIO pop up menu from Advanced.  My H4 shows up in that window, but not in the dropdown menu for Record Timing Master.
Thoughts?
Should I bag the zoom and go get a new usb mike?
~thanks

NO!  USB mics are equally if not more difficult to deal with (yes, Fog, I know...)

I do not recommend a USB mic for many reasons.  They have their purpose, I suppose and if you already had one I'd try to help you get it to work, but I do not recommend that anyone go buy one if they don't already have one.

I don't know much about the Zooms, I have helped a couple of people with them, but they seemed to work OK in WDM mode.

My first suggestion is to go to their website and see if they have updated drivers for it.  even if you're using ASIO4ALL - you still use either the windows codec or the manufacturer's drivers because ASIO4ALL is just a wrapper.

my next suggestion is to change to WDM driver mode and see if it works there.
my next suggestion is that if you're interested in replacing the zoom, I'd suggest a real condensor or dynamic mic and a USB soundcard instead of a USB mic.  check my website for some recommendations.

Have you downloaded the ASIO driver for Zoom from the manufacturers site?

I got my Zoom 2 work ok as audiointerface with them.
