This is sort of believable, in light of Craig Anderton's comment that he knew of a couple of significant announcements re the Roland/Cakewalk partnership but that he couldn't say anything until after they were announced at AES.

First, we used to have all our music stuff in lots of boxes, cabled together.
Then a lot of the stuff that was in boxes went inside a computer, with lots of cables between the computer and the boxes that were still left.
Then what was in the remaining boxes went into the computer and so we had no boxes anymore.

Manufacturers felt that we missed our boxes so began to re-introduce whizz-bang new reasons to have new, special boxes AND a computer.

there is the latest screenshot of the totally new concept of integrating some mixing desk that has almost no entrails via electricity to those little ovens with televisioons attached to them..

they say that one could make sounds with that stuff - eventually in the future even music will be produced with those - but only after the invention of polyphony in music ....(which will still take some major updates)

Just to further fuel the speculation: it's referred to as a "system." Could it be something RADAR?

Hey it could be real, best way to find out would be anyone who has Sonar 8 yet (does anyone have it?)

Go into the folder that contains the dll's for control surfaces (you know the folder that has the bit in it for the Mackie and other popular control surfaces) and see if there is a new one in there since Sonar 7.

I.e this thing is going to have been designed in conjunction with SOnar 8, so SOnar 8 will probably have a relevant plugin already included.

    Good Point!!!

BUt they could do all that with a ".1" update?? (Just to keep it secret from users now)

    RADAR

hey man ...radar /sonar ....whatever feels like being in the navy anyway

btw.. who can afford a radar system ?? (and this time i am not speaking of the militray one)
spending 14.000 for a 24 track seems much to weird to me - i guess they charge 10.000 only for putting "Nyquist" there

btw.. folks if you get so excited by that sonar release and the vapor-controlsurface - WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU WAIT FOR SANTA CLAUS??? heavy medical sedation in order to not completely freak out ????

to avoid "excitement induced dehidration" i have this little advice:

My guess is its probably a control surface with perhaps an audio interface and MIDI interface. Something along the lines of what Digidesign offers since after all, Pro Tools is their main competition.

An all in one system like that would be nice for new users, but it would have to be something pretty damn special to interest people who already have audio and MIDI interfaces. There are loads of audio and MIDI interfaces out there, and even the lower budget ones are pretty astonishing these days.

I'd definitely be interested in a tightly Sonar-integrated control surface, though. What I'd really like to see is a control surface with ICON style readouts for each control. So ACT when the mappings change as move around the UI in Sonar, you can actually see on the control surface what they are. I would definitely go for something like that.

I was just after a control surface.. But I would'nt mind it being an "all in one" with interface..
Lets just hope they offer Vista 64 bit drivers.. It would be pretty sad if they didnt.. Especially as they are leading the pack in Software 64bit..

It would be a deal-breaker for me, to be honest. I prefer things a bit more modular than that.

I'm sure they'll have that completely covered. I can't think of any software company, including non music ones, who have done more to ensure good Vista support.

Well if its being announced tomorrow then not really much point in keeping it secret in 8.0.

IN terms of what it is, maybe its not as expensive as Radar which as its live has to be super rock solid so it does not conk out 1/2 through the gig.

I would settle for something that gives automation like hte Mackie but obviously much depper integration into Sonar straight out the box. Some Analog ins with a Firewire interface would be nice, but not essential.

What I would really love is 3 knob per channel for EQ.

Hmmm... if it deals in the bagel format... I think I might be interested, but I've already got a few devices that deal directly with the coffee format. So, it'd definitely integrate perfectly.

Why does everyone want a picture of Sonar 8 when it's visually 95% the same as Sonar 7.

It's been stated that the most work was done under the hood!!!!!

There are a few frills in Dimension Pro and some other things.

The only visual update that I've heard of from Cakewalk is some kind of new Control Surface.

My problem is, I can't get the French Press plugs to talk to the Espresso-frothing plugs. Have you been having this problem?

    Seriously... maybe...

Now that there is a (Yamaha?) mixer that is "Cubase-optimized" and even has a little light that comes on when Cubase is detected... perhaps there will now be an expensive Cakewalk by Roland bit of hardware that goes "ping" when Sonar is detected.
