Cakewalk’s former head of PM goes on the attack
This is a brief but fascinating read. http://www.spark23.com/sp...ng-shut-down-by-gibsonMoney quote: “When I was interviewing for the role, it was clear to me (and everyone I spoke with) that Cakewalk had no vision, no direction and no strategy. ” This is interesting because Alex Westner was at one point the PM on Sonar and then the director of PM, before leaving to work at Izotope. He returned to Cakewalk shortly before Cakewalk’s demise. I disagreed with many of his decisions during his first tenure, but the greater point is this: if Cakewalk was so laggard and broken by the time of his return, doesn’t he himself shoulder some of the blame?

I was kind of disappointed that it ended before it really got started. Would love to hear more of what he had to say.

I'm glad sonar is gone. Should have moved to Cubase much sooner. And WTF is the connection between sonar and england?!

I thought he pretty much said it all in that reddit thing a while back. You have to wonder why he even wanted the job though given what he says was obvious to all and that he'd already left the company once.

How do you know it was the same guy as the Reddit guy? It's not outside of the realms of possibility that more than one ex-Cakewalk employee would end up dishing some dirt.

Since he was in, and then out without any public profile, he's probably getting the finger pointing. Based on comments from a number of people it appears that there were too many agenda's being followed. Momentum was a failure before it launched and things like touch and blue tooth MIDI are niche markets within the niche market. Too many cooks, as the saying goes.

I did predict Momentum would be a failure. Not because of the quality of the product - it looked quite slick. I just thought very few people would be prepared to pay a subscription for it. I know I wouldn't have.

You think? Wow, I would never have thought of that on my own. FWIW I read somewhere else that it was him and what was said there seems to be pretty much what he is saying about the state of the company in the OP's link, so it seemed to back up the assertion by whoever it was that it was him first time around. Maybe it wasn't him and 2+2=5.

Yeah but was that just someone expressing the "hunch" that it was him, I'm sure. The Reddit poster was anonymous, and I think it's pretty much staying that way. Of course we all have our hunches, but I certainly wouldn't put any money on it. I don't think the fact that they both said the same thing about the state of Cakewalk means much - if that's really how things were in the company then you'd probably hear those views expressed by multiple Cakewalk employees.
