My Octa-Capture is rock Solid.   I though I had a problem at one time, but I rolled back Sonar from an early Sonar install and waited until the final version was released and I was fine and rock solid ever since.

I love the Roland Octa-Capture and plan on using it until it no longer functions properly.

This is a great Hardware Audio/IO, So look harder the problem is something else on your computer.  Maybe cheap freebee plugin,  Maybe a paid for plugin,  or maybe a driver on your computer that is lurking around not related to nothing.

I hope you all find out what's causing your problems.

Peace,
Jesse G. A fisher of men  <><

Yeah in my case there's something with CA-2A, BT-Analog Trackbox and Rapture Pro, i can't open or insert that plugins without a risk of crash but after the crash (need to unplug and plug again my QuadCapture) SONAR can be opened again, there's something wrong here but i don't know who is responsible, if i use the rest of my audio arsenal, SONAR and Roland QuadCapture are rock solid, maybe the devs can figured out with the Event Logs i posted.

I sent an e-mail to Roland tech support to see if this is a known issue with ASIO drivers vanishing after a crash.  If I hear any anything back, I will let you all know.

Seems to be quite a wide array of experiences on many different systems so no smoking gun.

Wish I knew which corporation will own Cake next so I can buy their audio interface early.

stevesweat. . . .. . But when I loaded any other project Sonar crashed and upon restarting with no reboot, Sonar told me I had no audio devices and didn't "see" the Roland anymore.
This is very mystifying and seems more related to Sonar than Roland since I'm having such similar issues at home with no interface. . . . .

The same happens with my Quadcapture, too. Since the latest rolling Update. But a rollback to 2016-10 doesn't solve the Problem, I think, it's a Windows Problem. Up to now, System was absolutely stable. When changing to MME32 before closing Sonar and restart, it's possible to Change to ASIO with Quadcap Drivers as usual.

I thought I had solved the problem by disabling Octa capture inputs and outputs in windows sound, however that ended up not fixing anything.  The issue came back with a vengeance...

I got a response from Roland asking me to uninstall the drivers and re-install letting windows find the drivers on the inter-webs, below is the response.  Since doing this things have been pretty stable.  Sonar has crashed a few times, but it actually saved a recovery file, send a de-bug report to cakewalk and izotope, and did not remove the ASIO drivers.  I call that a victory !!  Whooo Hoooo

(important to note that you uninstall drivers by removing the App, not from device manager.  If you remove drivers from device manager, the app is still there on your PC)

We would recommend uninstalling and then reinstalling the driver:

Also be sure that the OCTA-CAPTURE's version is 1.5 or later. To check the version, turn off the OCTA-CAPTURE and turn it back on. The version number will appear on the screen while it's powering on. If it needs to be updated, this can be downloaded here:

Hope this helps....if the issue comes back i will let you all know.

Works nicely so far...but more latency than I hoped with plugins turned on during recording..trying to figure a work around on that one...though no deal breaker. Aside from turning the latency setting down(which so far led to the dreaded click/pop syndrome)...anyone have good advice? I was impressed that I can record in MC7 (on laptop)...and monitor(listen) to a song/vid on youtube while recording/playing guitar n singing at same time with no issue via the Octa. Very impressed on this.

I encountered probz with mine several months ago that went away when I switched the driver mode to WASAPI. In ASIO it started just dying and like you said not being seen by SONAR. They haven't released driver updates for these in a long time, I wonder if they're end-of-life. :-(

Not sure for what reason, but mine has gone back to running rock solid.

1) I let my machine update all WIN10 updates. (back on auto updates.)
2) I am on latest Sonar Plat version
3) I renamed my audio.ini. (I did some nonsense a while ago to balance out my 8 cores.  I am back to hitting core 1 hard, but there is no impact to performance that I can tell.)
4) I shut down just about all background apps.
5) Disabled auto-save.  (cannot say for sure, but a lot of my crashes seemed to happen when I was editing and auto-save jumped in)

I had a friend over on Saturday recorded 6 hours straight without a hiccup.

I am not too worried about End Of Life for the Octa.  My son is still happily using my old firepod !  They don't stop working when they go end of life.

That problem is not with Roland Octa-Capture or Quad-Capture, that's a Cakewalk problem.

My QC runs better than ever in ASIO mode. When I updated to win 10 I didn't bother to optimize my laptop 'cuz everything seemed to be working. Last week I checked settings and also tried lowering the latency and was surprised when I could drop the buffer size from 128 to 64 and it's solid.

I will be testing to try to achieve lower latencies with plugs turned on....no issue at all if plugins are off while recording.

I track with the fx I plan on using, just not LP plugins or others that need look ahead and when I get to the mastering phase I up the buffer size.

So far....love this interface....latency not an issue now..figured out necessary methods for my recording needs....Very pleased. Heck...I'm able to record live..while jamming with a song or reading lyrics on the net at the same time lol....Very convenient for learnin' a thing or two now n then ;-) it's a serious upgrade for recording...fun new tool functioning well
