Calling all Fishman TriplePlay users

Am I the only FTP user in the world that has problems using this instrument plugin in Sonar?

When I use the hardware by itself everything is grand, although that limits you to poly mode.  When I load up the instrument plug, it gets weird.  MIDI timing is fine to start, but degrades.  And I always get Windows Problem Reporter kicking off when I close a project that has the TP plugin in it.  This is true for S-Plat and X3e alike.  Other than taking longer to close the project, it's not obvious unless you see the Problem Reporter pop up in task manager, or you notice the dump files.  Sonar continues to run.

I've also tried this plug in the Studio One version that comes with it and with Reaper.  No problems with either of those.

I'm trying to figure out which direction to go for getting resolved.

I don't use the FTP much, normally I use a GR-55 for GTR to midi, but I just gave it a try with platinum and didn't see any problems, although I only recorded for a minute.

In a new project I dragged the FTP vsti to the track view, changed to mono mode, set the inputs to FTP 1-6, selected Alchemy (also dragged a drum loop to an audio track) and recorded. I then dragged Lounge Lizard to the track view, set the inputs to FTP 1-6 and recorded and that worked as well.

The only thing funky about FTP that I'm aware of is that you don't want to enable omni on the input, only select what you need.

If HW mode works ok are you sure you can't switch to mono in HW mode? Have you checked out the v guitar forum? There's a lot of information there about there about the FTP and if you ask questions there you're apt to get some answers.

I've got the FTP. It's still quite new and I've not spent a lot of time recording it, just playing with it stand alone.

Any specific test you like me to verify ?

Thanks Albert.  This thing is kicking my ass really bad.  Basically, any session I have had the TP VSTi Gui open in will cause S-Plat to dump core when the project is closed.  Takes a while for Windows Problem Reporter to write the dump so I can move on.  Sonar doesn't actually crash, it just stalls while the dump is being written.  Once done writing, Sonar is fine to continue on with.

As long as the project is closed with the TP GUI closed, I can reopen the project and play, record, use the TriplePlay, etc., and even close the project without any errors or problems.  BUT - if I open the TP GUI for something it will dump when the project gets closed.

Everything continues to function.  No data is lost.  I just have to wait while it writes a core dump when I close the project.

I've been at this for weeks trying to get it sorted.  Of course I'm the only person on the entire planet that is experiencing this, so Fishman isn't too concerned.

Here's the kicker.  Same thing happens in another DAW, except it dumps on program close instead of when the project gets closed.

From what I read, you do not need the TP VSTi Gui (this I take it as the stand alone TP software) to be opened in order to use the TP interface when running Sonar. Once you have tuned up the string sensitivity the setting is updated to the TP interface itself and it will remember the setting until you reset it.

For example, there is usually a clash if I use 2 stand alone instrument, such as BFD standalone with another soft-synth with the later reporting ASIO is being used.

I've re read the OP, and you did mention it's a TP plug-in. I'll test it out soon.

Ok, I open TP interface as VSTi - there is no crash or dump, but I do have an issue of 'Receiver being used'. According to the faq, this message indicate not enough midi port, as the TP requires 2 port. I was trying to enable both at Preference - Midi - Device, but it didn't clears up the message and TP interface received no signal from the pickup.

I did manage to use another soft-synth and to drive it via TP midi and it works. I'll try it again later and see how I can make the TP VSTi work.

There is no crash or dump during the test and after exiting Sonar.

There are a few different ways to use this thing, each has its own advantages/disadvantages.

If I had really good sense, I would go with the option that works correctly and move on.  Unfortunately, I can't let go until this is resolved.

On the MIDI ports ... Craig did an article in the XP days that dealt with "invisible" devices.  They still exist and are easier to see now.  Maybe getting rid of the dormant devices will free you up.
