Can I Delete Hollywood Strings Gold? [RESOLVED]

I have both Diamond and Gold Hollywood Strings installed.

Can I safely delete the Gold folder to save space? Naturally, I will save the original disk shipped to me with all the content.

Right now, my D Drive has a folder called "Hollywood Strings Library" (312GB) and one called "Hollywood Strings Gold Library" (46 GB), so if everything I need is in the Hollywood Strings Library, I will delete the Gold folder.  I guess the question is if Diamond uses both folders, or if everything Diamond needs is contained in "Hollywood Strings Library."

I really need the space for performance reasons until I can install an additional drive later.

Thanks.

I don't have Hollywood Strings, so you may want to wait for someone who's more knowledgeable to chime in.  In the meantime, here's my suggestion to think about.

You don't have to delete to find out.  Try renaming the folder to something simple like "Hollywood Strings Gold Library2".  Then try using your Diamond version.  If there aren't any problems, you should be able to delete it.  If there are just remove the "2" and you should be back to where you were.

Is HS Gold still on the PC?  You may want to do an uninstall of it so it doesn't try to access the missing files.

    Good luck.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

    Thanks, but here's the problem:
    • Hollywood has so many samples and articulations that testing it thoroughly would be a major challenge.
    • It is not performing well now due to disk space constraints.

Update:  The admin on the EastWest Forum just told me it is safe to delete the Gold folder.  Thanks.

    Hi Konrad,

I think to remove the Gold you may need to do it from within Play first.

I only have HS Diamond, and have one folder called "Hollywood Strings Library" which is 312 GB, so that agrees with the folder size you have. And under that are two folders, "Hollywood Strings Instruments and Hollywood Strings Samples".

When you run Play, in the Play browser page where you choose the library, do you see the two versions of "EWQL Hollywood Strings" under the Favorites tab ?.

As I said, I only have Diamond and all I see is "EWQL Hollywood Strings" ... no indication of the version, unlike the EWQLSO which definitely lists as Platinum here.

If you see the two versions inside Play, then you can highlight the Gold version and select "Remove" to delete the program references to it.

Then it should not show up again in Play.

Then I would do as Old55 says above, just rename the Gold folder and give it a quick test to make sure everything runs as expected.

You want to get that second drive mate, it will change your life :-)

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers - Cliff

Ha, you already got the best answer while I was checking things.

    Good to know.

Hey, Cliff.  Thanks for all the efforts.  I owe you one, buddy.

Just to close this out, I never purchased Gold.  I bought Diamond, but the Gold folder sort of automatically came with it—I suppose in case you decide you want to run a smaller version.  I just wanted to make sure Diamond wasn't using anything in that folder.

I deleted the Gold folder but I still have everything on the original disk that was shipped to me in case I ever need to go back to it.

For the record, I am not sure Diamond is worth it, since I never use Divisi (since I have Vienna Dimension Strings) and since I never use the multiple mic positions (although I guess I might sometime).

Anyway, with Hollywood, Dimension Strings, and Vienna Special Edition and Special Edition Plus, I think I am covered for strings. :-)
