Can I bounce tracks with M-Audio Fast Track?

I have a new computer with the M-Audio Fast Track USB, and can't figure out how to bounce midi to audio. I tried various routing options. I've tried the bounce tab. The armed audio track does not detect the midi track output (using VSTi's). Is there a way when your audio source is external to the computer? I appreciate your help! Mel

    Hi There,
If your audio source is external (like a synth) then you can't bounce it, you have to record the audio in real time from the audio out on your device.
You must play the MIDI track while recording to an audio track.

I've tried recording real time but can't get the armed audio track to recognize the output from the midi track (or any other track). Again, I've tried different routing options. I can record audio using a mic or guitar without any problems. Any suggestions? Mel

    I'm confused.
Are you trying to record from an external source or from a soft synth?  Are you trying to record audio directly from a synth while playing it or are you trying to bounce a prviously recorded midi track to audio?

There is a thing called live bounce (or real time bounce) which essentially bounces your synth output to an audio track while you are playing.  Look it up!

Sorry for the confusion. I have some recorded midi tracks that I'd like to convert to audio so I can use certain audio effects. With my old computer it was as simple as (1) arm an audio track, (2) solo the midi track, (3) hit record. That doesn't work with my new setup and I suspect it has something to do with the M-Audio Fast Track (my previous computer had an internal sound card). When I arm the audio track and play the midi track, the armed audio track doesn't detect any sound although I can hear the midi output just fine (using soft synths). I tried the M-Audio forum first and the suggestion was to route my midi track output to the audio track input using a bus. But I could never figure out how to make that work, plus I've tried multiple routing options without success. Based on your earlier comment, is it not possible to bounce from midi to audio using an external audio interface? I can't seem to get that question answered. If so, am I left to exporting my midi tracks to audio if I want to convert them? Thanks, Mel

I suspect you were using the Windows synth (Roland or something) on your internal card - and it was recording in a mode called "What you hear" or something!
Your Fast Track does not have a built in synth.  The good news is that Sonar has lots of great Soft synth options depending on your version.
What you must do is pick a synth, insert it (you only need the audio out, no midi tracks since you have them) and then from your midi track, select the synth you just inserted as the out.
Try using the TTS-1 because it is multitimbral. You can send each midi track to up to 16 instriuments, just like the internal card's synth.
    There is a tutorial.

Okay, I finally figured this out. I can't bounce from any midi track (assigned to a specific soft synth) using the bounce command; it has to be the inserted synth track. That's different than what I'm used to, but I can adjust. Thanks for your help! Mel

Your question title is a little confusing, because the soundcard plays no role in bouncing tracks.
You could do it even without a soundcard.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
