Can I put a SATA 3G internal HD from my old HP into a new Gateway I purchased?

Can I put this old hard drive into my new Gateway or is this a stupid idea?? Thanks for the help.

    You can put the old drive in the new PC as a second, but not boot, drive.  You can then either copy off your user data or reformat the drive and use the drive for storage.

    Yeah my new build has 6 ports for SATA drives, and a ribbon for 2 of the old style drives. I opted NOT to install any of the old drives.... I used that ribbon for the DVD and left the other connector on it unused.

    If I need more storage, I'll watch for SATA drives on sale.

    I am so curious to get the SATA drives. I have missed one couple of days ago. I want to know about your sell price of this drives. I wish that It will be less than market price.
