Can I remove vocals from a song?

Hello everyone. Do you know if/how I can remove the words from a song so it can be used like Kareoke? I'm not music savy, I'm just a Spanish teacher who has a student who wants to sing to La Oreja de Van Gogh for the talent show. I've got the Music Creator program and I can't even get the thing to play the song! Do I have the wrong software?

What are my options? If you could offer any help at all that would be much appreciated. Thanks

Well, first we have to ask you: in what format is that song file? Does the file contain differente separate audio tracks, one for the vocals and another for the instruments?

Is what you have is an mp3, wav, or CD formar copy of the original song then I'm afraid that even if you do open it with Music Creator you won't be able to erase the vocals track and leave the music which is what you seem to want to do.

What format is the song in?

Actually Thrust there may be a solution. Karaoke machines can strip out the vocals to some extent. When the vocals are recorded dead-centre in stereo, you can invert the wave form and play it over the top, and it cancels out the sound with anti-noise.

Lorissa - If you've got your music as an audio track, duplicate it onto another track and invert the waveform (I think you'll need a sample editor for this : maybe load into a sample editor, invert and then import). You might have to swap stereo channels as theorectically just inverting the wave will cancel all sound.

Never done it, but that's the principle behind karaoke vocal removal.
