Can I replace my AMD athlon x2 4800 with a Phenom X3 processor?
I just read in a back issue of Sound on Sound that AMD Phenom X3 processors are socket-compatible with the athlon X2. My Gateway is fitted with an Athlon x2 4800, and it seems like an upgrade to an X3 is a pretty cheap way (at about $160) to get more grunt into the machine. Can someone more technically sophisticated than me please advise? I consider this, if it works, to be my last upgrade. This desktop machine is perfectly capable of handling most of what I throw at it, and extending its life for a couple of years seems like reasonable value for money. Thanks, Lightninrick
