Can I set a "maximum" velocity ?

I am playing piano on one track with a strings track underneath.

When I hit a piano note hard, I don't want the strings track to respond to that velocity as much as it is.

Can I put some kind of filter on my strings to say "no matter how hard I hit the keys, the strings volume will not go above this level?"
ie:  its like putting a ceiling on the strings volume,  eg:   if velocity > 50 then velocity = 50, something like that.

I can't think of a way to do that on the INPUT, but after it's recorded, you can use the MIDI filter FX to put a cap on the velocity of a track or a group of notes.

on the MIDI track, right click in the FX bin, then select MIDI FX>CAKEWALK>VELOCITY
you can choose from several different functions, but LIMIT is what you are describing you need.

Does your controller have an on/off for touch sensitivity? if it does you could turn that off then the controller will not send a velocity signal to sonar and they will all be the same.

Thanks all...

I added to the FX bin on my strings track the Cakewalk Velocity FX and clicked on Limit.

Then I dragged the upper limit down to 85.     Works great.   :)    Limits it real time.

ok, well sort of.  technically it's still recording the higher velocities, but the FX is PRE softsynth, so it would SOUND like it's real time at least.

as long as you're getting the results you want it doesn't matter.  I just wanted to point out that it's still recording the higher velocities if you go to edit them.

There is most likely the chance to choose different velocity curves in your keyboard.
A different velocity curve might also help in your case.
