Can I use Staff view to obtain a vocal melody?
I am trying to find an easy way to notate a vocal melody. Could I drag an audio track of vocals to a midi track and then use the Staff view? (Not at my PC right now). Last night I downloaded Musescore. My hope is to be able to notate the melody.
What are your suggestions?

Yes, that should give you a viable starting point. Melodyne Essentials will be able to handle a single vocal line. You'll need Editor or Studio version to convert polyphonic harmonies. Depending on the complexity of the timing, you will likely find that you need to do some tweaking of MIDI note timing and durations or adjust the Trim/Fill Durations options to get a clean and accurate rendering of notation from the MIDI.

Yes, that should work. I think when you drag an audio file to a midi track Melodyne automatically converts it to midi.

This is a MUCH better answer than mine.

I do have Melodyne Editor - I think - it’s one lower than the Melodyne with all the bells and whistles. I don’t have to open Melodyne? I have used Melodyne in the past as a region FX to do pitch correction to vocals and I have become really good at that part. Just to make sure I understand - Staff View is only usable on a MIDI track, right? In order to get the audio of the main vocals into Midi, just drag it to a Midi track. Then choose Staff view to see the notes in music notation.
Of course I understand I will need to check the midi track to make sure it matches the audio track.
I am just beginning to explore more with MIDI - I got the basics like changing sounds and assigning to my controller’s pads/knobs and such.

Yes, that is the quick way. But you may find you get better overall results by first opening a copy in Melodyne, and correcting some pitches/durations. Incidentally, for those still using Essential, I just Googled Melodyne upgrade options because I never took advantage of the Essential-to-Editor upgrade that was offered for $149 when Essential was first bundled with SONAR. Turns out that same offer is currently available through December 31 from all Melodyne retailers.

Got it - Isn’t there a convert to midi in the Melodyne interface? Can’t recall and I’m not at my PC.

To convert from an audio clip that's been opened in Melodyne via ARA, you still just drag the clip in the audio track to a MIDI track, but any pitch/duration corrections you've made will be reflected in the MIDI.

To get it pitch perfect, first put your vocal into Melodyne, then get rid of all the vibrato, etc. You just want pure straight line pitch from the beginning to end of each note in Melodyne. Then render the Melodyne track (I just use the 'bounce to track' method). Now you will have a nice pitch-perfect audio vocal track that can simply be dragged into an empty midi track and it will magically turn into a midi track once you release the mouse. One of the more amazing features of Sonar. Of course, it may not get every note exact but it does an amazing job. The cleaner and more pitch-perfect you can get it in Melodyne, the more accurate your results will be.

Another alternative *if* (it has been a while, so this may be a polyphonic thing) drag/drop using the melodic algorithm isn't quite on... Open Melodyne Editor standalone and import the vocal track there, you may want to tweak pitch centers, then export as MIDI. That MIDI file may be more accurate than drag/drop inside of SONAR/CbB.

Drag and drop audio to MIDI track works fine. But I'd highly recommend listening to the vocal melody line first played on a synth horn or piano before printing or exporting to notation software. Best audition solution for those who don't know how to sight read music. For optimal results use a MONO vocal track with all time based (reverb, delay, flange, chorus) FX turned "OFF" Pitch correction software plugins (Antares Auto Tune, Waves Tune Real Time) are a definite + and a must if already use on the vocal track. But if you don't have any PC plugins, always run Melodyne pitch correction first. Keep in mind that during the conversion process Melodyne is going to Quantize notes from audio to MIDI so there may be, but not necessarily be some notation differences in places here and there during complicated vocal phrases where "ghost notes" and "accidentals" have been used. If you know what these are you can delete the blobs if necessary in Melodyne.
