Can I use instruments from Sonar X1 Producer toolbox as software sampler?

Hi

I'm a recent convert from Sonar LE and still much overwhelmed by all the tools that come with Sonar X1 Producer ...

Currently I'm trying find an efficient way to trigger samples and start loops via MIDI. Hopefully one of you guys can suggest what to use (Beatscape, Cyclone, Dimension LE/Pro, Dropzone) ...

All I want to do for now is record some guitar and bass licks in Sonar, drag them into one of these instruments and then start & stop them as loops via MIDI notes from my TD-20X pads (or maybe also later from a Behringer FCB 1010).

I tried ...
... Beatscape but got poor audio quality (is this due to the auto-slicing?) and could not find a way to remap the MIDI notes that trigger the samples ...
... Dimension LE/Pro & Dropzone, but could not get it to loop (despite super sound quality)

I saw some of you guys recommending "yellow tools independence free" and was wondering if you comment on that ...

Your help is much appreciated.

Rob

Hey Rob you might to try the Matrix view as well. It has a MIDI learn function and may do the trick. Sorry I have little experience with what your trying but others will know more.

I have the Yellow Tools Free and for a free sampler? It's awesome.

    Welcome to the forum.

You can also use Dimension Pro as a sampler.
You can load any wave file (and other formats) into one of the part slots and apply effects and other paranmmters to the sample.

If you need a proper sampler, download the Yellow Tools Free sampler - it is very good, but you have to do a 2gig download.

Beatscape is problematical, but in theory would be the one you'd want.  However, I'd try the Matrix.  You can drag samples into it.  You can make them acid loops first, if you want to change tempos, etc.  Put your sample loop on the timeline, double click on it and you can edit it if need be (slices, etc.).  Then save it as Sample Loop guitar or some other name.  Drag it into the matrix and perform a pattern.  Drag another, etc. etc.  Rinse and repeat until you have a long, luxurious hair ... I mean song.

    Thanks for the help, guys!

The Matrix view provides exactly what I was looking for - and it's quick & easy. It only took about 10 minutes to figure and transform some parts of earlier recorded tracks into superb looping clips, triggered via MIDI from cymbal pads of my TD-20X (just simple drag & drop) ... well, this saves me about 500 EUR as I was already looking into buying a Roland SPD-S for that particular purpose ... the MIDI learn from the Matrix is what does the trick ...

BTW, the Matrix also works nicely with my touchscreen - very cool for multiple loop set-up, testing ... or just stopping the noise that I created ...

I've also downloaded independence free sampler, but that looks like it needs some time to figure out ... I already got my creativity boost from the Matrix ...
