Can I use my MIDI controller to play my iPad synths in Sonar?

I can play my iPad synths in Sonar by loading them through the Studiomux VST.

But I would also like to control them using my Komplete Kontrol MIDI controller.

Is this possible?  If so, how do I set it up?

I know it can work with iConnectivity devices, but I'm wondering if it can be done without them.

Thank you!

I'm almost certain it can be done, but it's going to depend which iPad synths you're talking about as they don't all have the same MIDI capabilities.

I'll try to help if I have the same apps as you, but I also recommend checking out the Audiobus forum. Lots of good info there.

    Thanks Telecharge.

I don't think which app I use is an issue.

When iConnectAUDIO2+ functions, all the apps I've tried (around 20) except for Model 15 have worked perfectly  (The latter may have crashed it because it uses so much of the iPad's system resources.)  They just need some basic core MIDI.  On a few you have to alter the settings, but most work as soon as you load them.

But I'm having issues with my iConnectAUDIO2+.  It may be a faulty unit.  If it was working okay I wouldn't be writing.  Before I send it back I'm looking to find out if a Sonar user has been able to use a MIDI controller with Studiomux.   Studiomux offers suggestions on how to set it up in Ableton, Bitwig, Studio One, Garage Band, Logic, Reaper, Traktor DJ, Main Stage. But not Sonar.

I'm on the Audiobus Forum every day, but I'm hoping there is at least one person here who has used Studiomux with a controller in Sonar and can show me how.  I think there is a better chance of finding that here than finding a Sonar user on the Audiobus Forum. My reading is that they are mostly iOS only, or use Logic and Cubase.

But if nobody responds here, I will post there.

Sorry, I don't have Studiomux. I do have an iConnectMIDI2+ and it has worked well for me.

You're probably not going to have much like finding a Sonar example. I suggest finding examples that have worked with other hosts and trying to apply that MIDI I/O or Audio I/O config to Sonar.

Not sure if this is helpful to you at all, but this is a virtual MIDI driver I discovered recently.

It looks like a neat setup but seems pretty complex otherwise I would get the apps and install them and try it out.  The whole server thing makes me nervous.  I have Vienna Symphony and it has its own server too and I don't use it much.  Gonna have to read and watch more videos but I think I may eventually try what you are doing.

That why I got an iConnectMIDI2+. I paid like $60 on Amazon Warehouse because the box was damaged. The wireless stuff is getting there, but when it comes to recording I'll take a cable every time.

You can record through a cable through many DAWs, including Ableton Live.  You just have to set it up right.  I just sent a note to the Studiomux people to see if they have advice for me about Sonar.

    I wonder why I didn't do that before?  : )
