Can Not seeing EZ Drummer notes in piano roll

Hi all,
I just got "EZ Drummer" from Toontracks.
It looks like this will be a lot of fun.

My problem:
After I drag & drop an EZD "groove" into a MIDI track
I can see the notes in the MIDI track, and I can also see
them in the piano roll view. That is... the keyboard part
of the piano roll.
But when I drag the keyboard part of the piano roll
out of the way to reveal what I'm going to call the "drum
part of the piano roll", I don't see the notes (or "hits") there.
The rows with drum instrument (snare, tom, etc) are there,
but with no black marks indicating hits in the columns.

I suspect this has to do with drum maps and I've already
tried to address that, to no avail.
I downloaded the Sonar drum map from the Toontrack web
site and put it in the Cakewalk folder that holds the other
drum maps (GM, etc) but that doesn't do it.

Any ideas?
I'm pretty much a novice with CW, EZD, and MIDI, so
please let me know if I'm missing key concepts.
BTW, I tried search both the CW and EZD forums for the answer
but haven't found it.

Thanks in advance,
Chip

    HI, Chip

I'm not the most experienced person here with MIDI drums, But I do believe you were on the right track when you tried messing with the Drum Maps. Nothing appears in the upper part of the Piano View--that's my understanding--unless you have the track piped THROUGH a Drum Map. It's not enough to just have it in your folder---You point the track's output Not to EZ, but through the Map, which in turn has to be set up in compliance with what you have going on in EZ.

    Pretty sure!

there is a drum map tutorial on the sound on sound website - search for it -it will tell you how to use them properly. I use EZ drummer and drum maps in SHS and it's a bit complicated to start with - but once you've set it up it's easy. Now i use the drum map in a track loop as a drum sequencer - which is great fun. Then if you use the mixer and set all t he outputs to different tracks you can put different effects on kick, snare etc. My favourite is to put them through amplitube and distort them. There's also a tutorial on the musc tech website for makeing processed/chemical beats like Kasabian/chemical brothers etc which is worth checking out once you've got past the drum maps.

    Thanks for the contribution, achamian

Using a Drum Map can look like "ARGH!" at first, Chip, but it's easy enough to understand the logic. You're just programming a map so that each note is assigned different drum sounds, however the particular drum module is set up. The most complicated use I made of a map was to have my drum tracks playing four different drum sets.

There's plenty of information about using Drum Maps right inside the Home Studio Help files. That's all I referred to for getting it to work. Go take a look, so you can use the drum grid in Piano View the way you want.
