Can Someone please help me?

In advance, "Thank you very much for all your valuable help and the time you have used in posting."
My question is this, "what short cut key do I use to move the green line thing in the track view, that tells you where you are time wise in your project?"
I hope I stated that correctly.
I know that the numerical keys will nudge the tracks left and right 1-3 places but I can't seem to find anywhere where it states how to move the "position line" left or right.
I probably could google it, if I knew the correct name for it.
So hopefully you will school me on the name of that, "position line" too.
Thank you very much and have a great day.
sincerely,
Larry :)

'G' is the shortcut for go-to-time.  If you hit G it will ask you what time you want to go to.

There's other commands that will do various things with the time selection, see here:
    http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X2&language=3&help=Menus1.182.html

Also you can go into the Keyboard Shortcuts section of preferences and search for commands related to the "Now" time.  Not sure if there's an easier way of moving the "Now" time forward and back with the keyboard.

I'm still on 8.5 so something may be different in your version. I simply click where I want the Now Time marker to be.
I think it's far faster than clicking/defining any values in, say "Move>To" drop box. Of course you can, for example set one of the Nudge options to something like two measures or whatever, and move clicking that several times, but then, if you'll most likely need to click for the exact position with you mouse anyway.
Of course, if your projects are extremely long, jumping with a short cut may be very practical.

You'll find all the info about Short Cuts in the help file (and all other instructions as well). You can also edit the short cut list to your liking opening it from the track view (don't remember exactly where it's located).

EDIT: OK others were both wiser and faster :o)

Hi, that's the "Now Time" for reference (as already pointed out).

There is a whole set of options for "tabbing" the now time using the keyboard. However I've never used them (but will be very very soon so maybe I'll update later) so you'll have to check out the manual.

    I think there is...

    Tab to Markers

    Tab to Transients

Tab to Measures/Beats (not sure about that but makes sense).

I THINK the actual hotkeys are Tab for forward and Shift + Tab for backward and you set what it jumps to in one of the menus (I'm going to guess the Track View menu - Options > Now Timebut I'm not in front of my DAW yet today).

Yeah I did a quick search and there was an option for tab to transients.  Move to markers is something like ctrl + page up / page down but maybe that can be changed.  Strangely I didn't see a way to tab to the next measure but I swear I remember seeing it in one of the Sonar Explained videos. . .

The reason I've never really used some of those options is because for my workflow they never really seemed all that helfpul or quicker than just setting the NT by clicking. Tabbing by Beats/Measures would be so maybe it doesn't exist or I just haven't stumbled across it in my travels.

I'll probably look it up later.

Re: Can Someone please help me? 2015/06/21 09:59:28 (permalink)
I found in key bindings "go to end of this or next measure" and similar previous.

Assigned Ctrl+N and Ctrl+B to these.
Don't remember if they were assigned by default.

Then use a jog wheel with shuttle Express to move quickly in timeline.
Shuttle send these keyboard combinations you assign.

But what I really looked for was something that scroll window timeline line scrollbar ends do, that does not move now time, and playback - just ability to move in timeline without change of what is playing.

    Anybody know?

After looking around a bit I've only been able to find...

Tab to Transients: Tab = Next Transient, Shift + Tab = Previous Transient

    and

Jump to Marker: Press CTRL+SHIFT+PAGE DOWN to jump to the next marker, or press CTRL+SHIFT+PAGE UP to jump to the previous marker.

Not saying there isn't a nav hotkey to just jump through beats/measures but it ain't coming up. Now that I think about it I may have been remember something from another DAW. If this does not exist in Sonar then I may make a feature request. It might be somewhere hidden in the unbound Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts area (so maybe it IS possible but the binding has to be assigned by the user). Don't have time to really dig through all that right now.

I have a MCU as my Control surface, so I use the Jog wheel to move my now time marker.  I don't even know a lot of Sonar X3 short cuts because of the MCU.  Someone needs to come take this think away from me as I am too dependent on it.

Save me from it's evil grip on my fragile recording life...Help!!
