Can Volume Envelope Settings Be Saved?

Hi!
X3 Studio user.

I did a bass part in MIDI and exported it to audio.  Then later, I found some bum notes that I would like to change, but the problem is is that, before I found the mistake, I spent over an hour "riding the fader" using the automation write function (because compressors don't seem to work for me, but that's for another thread).  Anyway, I still have the MIDI bass part, which I can change, but if I do that it seems like the current audio track is "locked in" behind the automation and in order to change the audio track I have to destroy an hour's worth of work by deleting the volume envelope in order to delete the current audio track an insert a new audio track.  Is there any way to save the volume envelope setting so that I can temporarily disable it to insert  a new audio track and then re apply my volume envelope setting?  I know it's a tall order, but thanks in advance.

Fix the notes in the MIDI track; bounce to audio. Then cut out the bad parts in the track with the automation and insert the good parts from the new track by splitting and dragging.

In X3, I wrote a volume envelope in an audio track, then selected Edit>Copy and deselected Events In Track and that copied just the envelope which I could then paste into another track.

Does that involve using both audio and MIDI tracks (Split)?

You can also bounce the new audio to a new track, then copy the audio into the old track, open the take lanes and delete the one you no longer want. Since the automation is in the main track, it will remain. You could probably simply bounce to the old track and do the same thing, but I like to be safe, lol.

Just a guess (i'm not at my DAW), but couldn't you delete the audio (but not the envelope) and set the audio track Input to the Synth Output?  That would keep any settings or FX intact.

I'm not sure what you mean. In my example, I imported audio into a new project, but the process should work on any audio regardless of the source.

From experience, if you delete the audio, the envelopes get deleted as well, unless there is another take remaining.

Not so if you do a Delete Special and deselect Track Automation

Shows what happens when you get into a specific workflow pattern, lol.

Wouldn't using the Automation Lanes switch work? It moves the automation to a separate lane which then allows manipulation of the audio/midi data afaik.
