Can a sustain pedal punch in/out?

I will explain further:
Can a midi event like pushing on a sustain pedal connected to my midi keyboard cause Sonar to punch in and out of a recording track?  It would be great to have this as an option instead of setting the in/out loop points manually.

Does anyone know if this is impossible at this point in time?  Sorry if this has already been discussed in other threads.

Short answer: no, not the sustain pedal. Longer-with-possible-solutions answer: Sonar only lets you map midi keys to shortcuts, not midi controllers. So, you can map, say, the lowest keyboard keys as the punch-in. Alternatively, of course, there are all sorts of midi-enabled controllers (hand-controlled and foot-controlled) that could probably be coerced into service. (tranzport controller [r.i.p], for example, had a footpedal jack just for such a function.) Some midi applets (midi-ox?) can intercept midi codes and re-route/translate them before passing them on--you might find some app that could translate foot pedal codes into keypress codes?? To do what you want requires work-around and/or cleverness. Depending on where your midi keyboard is sitting by you, maybe map a key that you can tap with a drumstick?

Sorry, I'm not sure about just using MIDI from your keyboard's pedal.  I use a keyboard pedal plugged into my Frontier Alphatrack.

If you do look into the Alphatrack, be aware some of the functions don't work under X1.  It does a lot of other cool things but it's not for everyone.

I bought a second wireless keyboard that sits over by my trigger kit. In Key Bindings, I Bind Function Key F7 to Record Start and have gotten pretty good at tapping it with my drum stick. I tap the space bar with the stick to stop it. It's not punch in/punch out though. I pre-delete a section I want to play again, use Sound on Sound with Layers enabled. Get a couple of measures for a running start and go for it. then just drag trim the clip afterwards. What can I say, I'm a class act...<G>

    Thanks for the feedback.

I have since done a little surfing and found a program called MIDIOX http://www.midiox.com.  It is supposed to remap midi in data to midi out and at least one user claims that it controls his record in/out process using a sustain pedal.  It also seems to run on W7 64.  Don't know if it works with Sonar or my M1 keyboard.

I will check this out and report back.
