Can an X1b user save only a portion of a projects' changes ?
I must admit, this even sounds dumb to me, but I created a project with 10 tracks and have re-opened it and made various changes to all of the tracts. Now, I only like 3 of the tracks that I've changed and I want the other 7 to stay as they were before I started this session but, I can't remember their original settings. Is there a way to select only the 3 tracts that I like for saving? Or, do I have to save this project session "as" and go back to the original and make notes of the other 7 tracks' settings and then merge the two sessions somehow? I guess what I mean is, can I save three tracts only as a .cwb, or such, file and then import them into the original project? Thanks in advance for any light you may shed, dave

Been asking for this since track templates were introduced. No reason to not be able to export tracks with data. All the code exists. Would be a great feature. And:::: To minimize the shock, dismay, and sadness accompanying the "File is Corrupt" message (and other related moments of profanity), I do the following: After a new project is created and saved to its project folder I do not SAVE the project again. Because to SAVE is to write over the previous SAVE. Hence, no backup. So I do not SAVE. I always SAVE AS to a new CWP file. Each new file name is changed by adding one or more characters: GreatSong_A.cwp, GreatSong_B.cwp,.... Since I have the Per Project folders enabled, all of the audio is in the same place. I save to a new name about every 5 minutes, and after recording a track, and a few edits,.... Mostly now I add the day's date to the name: GreatSong_031711_a.cwp, GreatSong_031711_b.cwp,.... And then on subsequent days I change the date, and begin anew with a, b, c,.... GreatSong_032011_a.cwp, GreatSong_032011_b.cwp,... Why add the date? Because the creation and modified dates of some files are changed when copied. And it is easier to determine what was the last version. Periodically, and after the project is complete (mostly), I delete all but the most current CWP files. I also use timed autosave, and versioning. The more backups the better. ================================ If you have only been saving, you may not have any previous projects to copy from. You can try UNDOing a bunch of actions. Review the UNDO history for possible reversals. Be sure to SAVE AS to a new file name before starting. J

Maybe talking out my butt here, but can't you delete the tracks you don't want, save & close it, then open the original project and import the newly saved one with the tracks you want? I've only had X1 for a couple days, but one of the in-depth videos showed that you could import one project into another.

Thanks Scott.. At first, I had an issue with the copy/paste and getting the 3 tracks in sync with the original project but I've now managed to get it right. I should add that this forced me to revisit ppgs 44-48 in your book (which I'd skipped over because I didn't think I needed to know how to save files :() I now have X1 set up for file versioning. I'll soon be replacing my project/file drive with a larger one!

J Thanks Jim, I have the auto save feature disabled because of my concern about doing something irreversibly stupid and have my project overwritten with it. Your use of the term "versioning" caught my attention and now that I understand what it is, I'm using that feature.

The auto save function does NOT save to the project's name. It creates an AUTO Save- file name. This file gets replace each time an autosave happens. 'Tis another reason I SAVE-AS to a slightly different name every few minutes. This make more files to choose from when needing to find that lost bit. Use auto save, versioning, and save to a new name regularly. J

Why can't you export tracks with the edits? As far as I know you can. Its all in the export dialog box.

Exporting audio is just for audio. A track template is essentially a one track project without data. It saves the name, state, routing for input, output and sends, and buses, effects, etc,... I want to combine some tracks from separate projects. Dropping the projects into the track window results in the data being imported. But none of the other stuff. Not easily usable. Was essetially the same as copying. To be able to export and import portions a project would be useful. And most of the code already exists. Hi-light tracks to save, file export project, only selected tracks, and walla, much joy and happiness. J
