Can metronome be silenced after counting in?

I have felt for a long time that I must be missing something obvious. I find the metronome distracting when recording along w midi drum clips. My keyboard sequencer (Kurz PC3X) allows me the option to use it's metronome for count in only. Is there a similar function in Sonar? There must be. I am probably just being dense. My work around (for years) has been to keep the metronome volume very low but that isn't a great solution.

Have you tried using Automation on the Metronome bus to either lower the fader or mute the bus?

Hi, If I am not mistaken, you can (at least in the latest version of SONAR) use a "count in" metronome, without having it play all the way through.
Which version of SONAR do you use?
All the best.

In preferences, uncheck Playback and Recording, but give a number for the count-in.

Using Plat 2017.04. If there is a way, I havent found it! I have thought of automation but seems like a lot of effort. It isn't like  I can't bear to record with the metronome running, I just thought there must be simple switch to flip somewhere to shut it off after count in. If there isn't I guess I can enter a feature request. I have used Kurz sequencers for many years (2500X prior to current board) and they have always had that function. I assumed it was pretty standard.

Thank you Craig!! I knew it had to be something ridiculously simple. I was looking at it like it had to be either  or both play back and record, assuming selecting neither would shut it off. Ugggh! It would be embarrassing to admit how many times I have looked at that page and not tumbled to the solution. Thanks again!!

I manually place 4 hi hat taps as count in and forgo the metronome at that stage in the recording.

I do something similar but use the sound of drum sticks hitting like some real drummers do to set the tempo, i.e. 1,2,1234.

There is even an easier way... If your metronome is working correctly, just click on the square next to (just to the right) of the time in the transport. It has a back dot in the middle  It toggles the metronome off and on when recording.  The Arrow above it toggles the metronome on and off during playback.  I use both all the time.

that's amazing!!!!! Thank you.  oops, responded to the wrong post. Was meant for Jimbo 88 about toggling the square next to the time.

I use the metronome bus and automate the volume down after the count in. I prefer this way over the actual count in feature. Sometimes I have orchestral holds that I automate the click to count back in to the downbeat. Very easy to do.
