Can midi drum tracks be "grooved".

I am just putting in my first drum track writing the midi notes to trigger addictive drums utilizing the piano roll. I was looking for a quick function to de-robot the drums but I can't find it.  I think in reason they called it "groove" and in BFD eco there is also this function. Thanks for any signposts.

Be careful with that feature as there can be mixed results. It basically just puts notes a hair off time randomly.
You can do this manually to some extent.
I sometimes will drag the snare track back just a tad so it plays just ahead of the beat line.
Kick drum should always be on the beat. Don't randomize that.
If your drum tracks sound mechanical it might be they just need more variety in the playing.
Listen to a real drummers hi hats. It's always changing velocity and open/close and variety of 1/4 - 8th and 16th notes.
Snare can have a dozen little ghost notes and flams , para-diddles etc.  Velocity is a big part of better drum tracks.  Putting it off time only makes it sound like a real drummer that had bad timing. Good real drummers may purposely choose to play parts ahead or behind the beat.

I think randomization functions should be called "number of drinks ingested by musician." I much prefer the use of MIDI grooves, or extracting a groove from audio, compared to random changes.

Where I do find randomization helpful is in conjunction with the find and replace option. For example suppose you have a string of equal velocity 16th note high-hats. You can use F&R to drop the level somewhat on the 2nd and 4th 16th notes in a beat, and drop the 3rd note slightly. Now you have an emphasis but if you add a little bit of velocity randomization, it make the part sound more alive.

I guess the feature I used in 8.5 was called "Groove Quantize"  and probably being a dope I did it wrong..But all it seemed to do was put notes off the beat in a random way. I just looked and I see there are no pre sets in my version. I guess you get different results by messing with the paremetres.

This page in the documentation  leads you to all kinds of groovy information. The part about being able to extract MIDI grooves from audio is pretty cool.
