If I open up Kontakt 4 without sonar it detects my midi controller and it responds when I hit the keys but once I open Sonar 8.5 , go onto an audio track and insert Kontakt 4 as a soft synth effect the midi controller stops working and I hae to click the virtual keys with my mouse in order for it to sound in Sonar... :(

This >> video << explains the midi setup!

    First up:
Make sure your Midi cables (in/outs) are connected properly! If not then do so whilst the Keyboard and PC is turned off, when done then turn of the Axiom and start up the PC.

Now open Sonar (without opening a project) and then....

. Go to Menu > Options > Midi Devices and select the Axiom and VS700.

    . Close Sonar!

. Watch more of the video on further settings. Take down notes on each step.

. Then go back and open Sonar and your project with Kontakt4.

. In the track (select it) make sure your Axiom is there and by default the midi chn should be set to 'Omni' by default.

. There's an indicator on the PC status bar that looks like a mini keyboard icon with two activity lights, they should light up if you're Axiom is set up right.

Good luck! And don't forget to read up more about Midi devices and controllers.
