Can you insert new track into existing track folder?

Simple question; I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer.

Existing track folder - want to insert a new track into it.  Can this be done or do i have to Insert, then move to folder?

Thanks

Yes you can, but it can't be the last track in the folder or it falls out of the bottom (and if there's another folder below it will appear in there).

If you weren't aware there's a keyboard shortcut, just select a track of the variety you'd like to insert (audio or midi) and press 'insert' Sonar will insert a track of the same variety below the selected track.

I don't see this behaviour. The new track goes into the currfent folder as expected (PE 8.53)

I don't know how one gets the insert of a track to not insert into the folder one is in. I inserted by clicking on the folder header and right clicked to bring up the context menu then selected insert audio track and it inserted that track at the top of the folder. I then inserted one at the bottom of the folder by clicking on the last track in the folder. It was inserted as the new last track in that folder.

If you use a key binding to insert a track it is possible to insert a track in a place you didn't want it to be. This may be due to not selecting where you want it by not selecting a track before insertion.

This is with Sonar PE 8.5.3.

Many complaints about how a new track is placed out of the current folder, when attempting to place the new track at the bottom. Has happened to me lots of times. We all was hoping it would have been fixed in 8.5. But, alas, not.

    Just tested again:
selecting last track in folder and right click insert and new audio track appears correctly

selecting last track and pressing INSERT: new track appears at bottom of ALL tracks

CLONE the last track in a folder and it appears out of the folder, in the next folder, if there is one.

It could be because the insert key is global key. Using the method of using the menu has always worked.

Yes, as jm24 mentioned it is the CLONING that places the folder outside.  Very annoying since I clone more than I "insert".

OK, Thanks for the replies everyone.  I've got Producer updated to 8.5.2 and when I make a brand new track folder and try to insert the first track into it by right clicking on the folder and choosing Insert Audio Track from the drop down menu, the new track is made OUTSIDE the folder just above it (not at the top of the folder, but outside it).  Sorry to be so dense here, but what the heck am I doing wrong?  I want to insert the first track in a new folder without having to move it in there.... This has got to be simple, but John, you were wondering 'how one gets the track NOT to go in the folder' - well, I just explained it.  Have repeated it a few times and same result.  Don't want to drive this minor issue into the ground, but it's a mild annoyance, for me anyway.  (If the folder already has a track in it, then this isn't a problem, since you can click on an existing track and insert).

Now you've mentioned it was a new track folder, I've tried again, and I get the same result as you, which suggests that you aren't doing anything wrong. I suppose it's a minor bug.

I don't have Sonar on the laptop I'm on, but I do this a lot, hopefully I explain it clear enough.

Expand the folder you are working in, and just to the left of the tracks where the folder tracks are displayed, right click in that space and select insert track. If you click in that area with the folder expanded, it puts the new track in the folder rather than outside of it.

This works but only when there are already tracks in the folder. The OP is talking about a new folder with no track in. On an empty folder, right clicking to the left results in "Move ACT MIDI Controller 1 Here"
