Can you use X3 comping on audio tracks imported into X3?

Hi all,

Although I bought X3 a few months ago, only over the Xmas holidays will I get time to set it up and start learning it.

One question I have for now is about comping. Having watched a few vidoes on the comping workflow, I am really keen to use that. Now, I have some old unfinished projects created in another DAW which have 8-10 audio takes for a vocal. In my old DAW I would comp the slow, hard way -- i.e. using volume envelopes for each take, down to the note/syllable level. Incredibly time-consuming. I would love to be able to import these audio takes into Sonar X3, and be able to comp them there.

So my question is, can you use the X3 comping workflow only on takes which you have recorded, as takes, in Sonar X3, or can I import into X3 wav files from elsewhere, line them up, and use X3's comping features on them?

I'd be grateful for any help.

Click the Take lane button on an empty audio track.  You should now see T1 under the original track.  Now click the '+' in T1 to add an additional take lane.  Repeat for as many as you need.

You can drag/drop from media explorer to each of these lanes and COMP away!

If you export takes from the other DAW as Broadcast wav files, the timing info will be saved in them and will make your import easier. Just be sure to add them to takes lanes per above, and they should already line up for you.
