Can you use a Drum Map on a "Simple Instrument Track"?

Sometime I just want to sketch ideas and a stereo drum track is more than adequate - but I can't seem to show/use/connect a drum map to that kind of track.

Yes I can add another track, a MIDI track, then set that track to Drum Map mode to get around this -
but is this the only way do this? Am I missing something?

Yes, in the inspector. Change to the MIDI tab. The input drop down is on the bottom of the track "I" in the illustration below (from: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR%20X3&Lang=EN&Req=Inspectors.3.html#1220713).

Thanks for the answer and adding the image - with just the text I was still hunting around.

Edit:
I made the following image before scook added the image to his post because with just the text description I was still having problems finding the settings I needed to change.
I decided since I made the image, might as well share it - no slight to scook who provided the help (thanks again).

Note: I did find that I had to toggle the Drum Map setting (which one I wanted) between the first & 2nd items on the list (not steps 1 & 2) several times before it took and the note #'s in the Piano Roll view switched to the Drum Map.
