Can't Get Loop Points to Work for Song (Won't Actually Loop)

Hi guys, I’ve been running into this issue now for a while now in X2 Pro, but it’s now getting to the point of being extremely annoying. I’ll set my loop points up and move the bar to the beginning of the loop region; I’ll hit play, and it will play through and sometimes loop for a time or two, but then it stops at the end of the designated loop section, never to loop again. The loop points are right there, clearly defined in yellow, but it’s not really looping at all. Is there a buffer setting or something that I need to address?

As always, your suggestions and advice are greatly appreciated.

Chris

I used to see it when I was using a very early version of Sonar. It only occurred in heavy projects. I don't think I experienced it after upgrading to the X series. Buffer setting? Possible. Do you experience it even with the lowest setting?

Sounds like a dropout to me. Try increasing your audio buffers a little Preferences---->Audio----->Driver settings

Thanks guys.....so, this is a drop out?....that's pretty much what I figured....some are saying increase and some are saying decrease the buffer settings......which should I do?

Anyway, I'll try troubleshooting some more tonight.

If it is a dropout it's highly unlikely a lower audio buffer will help. I/O buffers maybe, going either way with them can help but if it is your audio interface which is what I'd go for first - the only way is up.

BTW. A drop out is indicated in the transport module just to the left of where the nowtime is displayed

Ha ha, sorry. I said "the lowest setting" didn't I? Sorry for making it confusing. Since I also use the Quad Capture, you'll see lower numbers (on the 9-point scale) increases the buffer size. I usually use "5" (128 samples) when I record, but try "9" (largest buffer size) to see if the drop out is gone.

Sorry, I probably described it the opposite way. I was talking as if the 9-point scale was a ranking, where 1 is "higher" than 2.

Also, if your driver version is still 1.0.1, the latest version can be downloaded from here:
    http://www.roland.com/sup...=downloads&p=UA-55

You can get much lower latency with the same buffer setting.

It sounds like a cache or memory problem. But really I you want to set up a loop you should convert the audio or midi clip into a groove clip then stretch the groove clip to the length you want. To create a groove clip right click on a clip then go to Clip Properties->Audio Stretching->Enable Looping. Next hover you mouse of the end of the clip. When your your mouse changes to a square drag the clip to the new length. If the original clip contains a loop you will see repeating audio patterns in the wav pattern. You can allways tell a Groove Clip because the edges will be round. You can learn a lot about Sonar from the official book Sonar XX Power. Here is a link. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=cakewalk%20sonar%20power&linkCode=ur2&rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Acakewalk%20sonar%20power&tag=sulaimanthewordsmith-20&url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks. Scott R. Garrigus is the author and he has a support form for DAW's where he answer lot's of questions. http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/discuss/.

    Chris:

If you're recording MIDI rather than audio it may be that the MIDI buffer setting is too low. In fact this is probably worth doing anyway even if your problem is with audio.

Go to preferences/advanced/MIDI playback and recording. If the setting at the bottom under "playback" "prepare using xxx Millisecond buffers" is less than 500 set it to at least 500 (the default is 250 which causes lots of people all kind of strange problems, especially when loop recording as Sonar seems to run out of breath and fall over itself).

    Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
