Can't Make Any Driver Work
I have a Dell XPS8300/Creative X-Fi Extreme/Mackie Onyx Blackjack system on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. There's also a Logitech Web cam with a microphone. And an ATI HDMI output. I have disabled S/PDIF. The Blackjack is connected through USB. My speakers are connected to the X-Fi Extreme's stereo output. Nothing else is connected to the X-Fi Extreme. Nothing is connected to the ATI HDMI output. According to "About SONAR...", I have Sonar X1 Producer (build 184). I want to compose all of my instrumental tracks, besides guitar, inside SONAR, and then I want to record guitar and vocals over them through the Blackjack, export to WAV/MP3, and I want to monitor everything through my computer speakers.
The computer has a Core i5 processor at 2.8 GHz, 8 Gb RAM. There are between 80 and 85 processes running. I haven't yet tried shutting any of them down. The DPC latency checker shows nothing but green, but I don't know if I should be running something else at the same time to get a more accurate picture.
There is a specific problem with each of the four drivers:
- the MME (32-bit) driver works with everything internally. I've inserted midi data, snyths, drum sets and some audio data and that all records and plays back fine. However, when I try to record guitar through the Blackjack, it doesn't sync with the internal tracks on playback, it's way behind the beat. Playback timing master set to speakers and record to the Blackjack, the only choices.
- when I configure for the WDM/KS driver, my speakers disappear as an output choice so I can't hear anything.
- same with the ASIO driver, except I can hear tracks routed to the wavetable synth. No audio or inserted synths/drumsets. As with the WDM/KS driver, speakers don't appear as an output, just the Blackjack.
- under the WASAPI driver, there is a crackling, staticky sound on playback of anything. Also, if I configure the Blackjack as an output and listen on headphones, the same distortion is there.
I have no problem using the 32-bit driver. It's worked the smoothest except for the sync problem. What might be required to fix that? Or would one of the other problems be easier to fix?
Thank you for any suggestions.
