Can't change Latency in X2

I'm using SONAR X2 on a new Windows 8 computer with pretty beefy specs and a PreSonus AudioBox. For some reason I can't change the latency. When I go to the appropriate Preferences page and click the box to adjust latency nothing happens. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I used the same interface on my recently retired Windows XP SONAR X1 machine with no problems. John P.

To change latency on my system, I have to open the audio driver (soundcard / mixer software) and change the buffer settings, then in Sonar preferences I click "apply" and latency is adjusted to match the driver settings.

Changing the sample rate also adjusts the latency of the soundcard, after applying.

I had the same problem. Nothing happened when I clicked on the Sonar button that is supposed to open my audio hardware interface. I then closed Sonar and manually opened my hardware interface. All the latency controls were greyed out. There was message indicating another task was using the interface disallowing any changes. Unfortunately, it didn't say which one :-( As it turned out, Windows Audio was active and I had to stop that service in the manage/services Windows application. In Win7 and XP you can right click on MyComputer to get there.

I had a similar problem with the early ASIO driver for my Propellerhead Balance. I contacted Propellerhead support to let them know there was a problem (hence the latest version works ok) and then installed ASIO4ALL which kept me going until the new driver came out.
ASIO4ALL should give you some control if you can't figure out something with the official device drivers.

    Grum.

What do you mean by "nothing happens"? Does it mean you can change settings, but they're not applied, or that the settings are greyed out and the buffer slider does not move? When using ASIO drivers, you usually (to me it means vs. 8.5 and earlier) set the latency in the ASIO panel (clicking the ASIO button in the setting window, below the buffer slider).
If it's done differently in X-versions and your soundcard, just ignore this post.

It is´nt really a problem. I also had to change the latency through my controlpanel of the ESI Maya44XTe. By changing the latency to a lower level (for an example: 128). Sonar will recognize this change and show Me in the preference menue the new settings...
...what does´nt work is the direct "link/klick" on the control panel button, which should open up the controlpanel of my interface.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I will have to change the driver settings through the audio interface's accompanying software rather than through the SONAR X2 Preferences. For those who are interested, the ASIO panel does not appear when I press the "ASIO Panel" button. See the following image: http://www.flickr.com/pho...317155@N07/8291906442/ It looks like several of you have this problem so this is not specific to my hardware or setup. If all else fails I will take grumblewee's suggestion and use the tried and true ASIO4ALL driver. Thanks again! John P.

Different audio interfaces work differently with regard to opening or not when you click on the ASIO control panel from within Sonar.

I happen to have a Presonus Audiobox 1818 VSL, and I make any changes in its UI from the system tray.  I just fixed a friend of mine's computer, and his interface is an EMU Tracker Pre, and for that one, you make the changes from within Sonar by clicking on the ASIO control panel button.

So, it appears to be a case of the whatevers,

    Exactly.
You have to change the ASIO buffer size for the VSL series from their control panel applet.
One nice thing about the VSL series is that the driver is very responsive (quick track arming and response to changes under preferences).
