Can't export audio, What am I doing wrong!????
I have completed my first song in X1. I have about 30 tracks comprising of about 20 soft synths, 10 audio tracks and a bunch fx plugs. I also have a sidechained bassline off a seperate kick drum track. When I export to audio, the track mixes down to a wav file, but the wave file only contains about 12 of the tracks, not the full mix. It's weird because before I export, I highlight all the tracks to be mixed down, set a loop region for the whoole track and export the 'entire mix' in the settings but after it's rendered the file, only about 12 of the tracks in Sonar remain highlighted. It's as if the ones the don't remain highlighted are being missed To add insult to injury, the sidechained bassline is not mixing down as being sidechained, it's just rendering as the original unedited version. What am I doing wrong here? I've tried playing about with the options but it's not working and now I have a track that I can't use/export! heeeeeellllp!

My never-fail method is: 1) Mute the tracks you don't want in the final mix. 2) CTRL-A to select all tracks 3) File-Export-Audio to a WAV file. Works every time. I don't think you need the loop region.

Thanks for that Dave. To be honest that's pretty much what I do though. I'll try it exactly the way you are describing and see what happens. I just can't work it out, it's so weird that it's only rendering some of the files...

In addition to what Dave suggested, make absolutely sure that all your tracks are EITHER routed to the master bus, OR they're routed to another bus which itself is routed to the Master bus. The Master bus is one which YOU have to insert manually and route it's output to your soundcard/interface.

Jonesey, you may be onto something there. I have inserted a couple of bus's for reverb purposes and I don't remember then routing them to master bus. That could be it. I still seem to have issues with the sidechained bassline not rendering properly though, I had the same issue on a seperate project and I posted on here about it but nobody could help. It's a real issue because I sidechain alot and need to find a solution. Any ideas?

Daveny5, I tried what you have suggested and it worked! It was obviously something to do with the way I was actually 'selecting' all the tracks. Also, I have found the solution to my sidechaining problem - I had muted the kickdrum track (because I was just using it as a send), but this wouldn't let me render the bassline. All I did was unmute it and just the lower the volume to the bottom and now it renders. Happy bloody days!

I don't know why, but for me ""select none" seems to always work.

Is there a difference between exporting audio and bouncing everything to a clip on a new channel? i get that exporting creates a wave file whereever I choose and I can name it whatever. But as far as the mixing portion of the audio, is there any difference?

Hi,on my laptop[Dell XPS l502x-i7 2630qm]I sometimes get the-"there is no audio to export" pop up,and find if I just,re-start X1 and try again to export,it works fine, although, many of the windows that open, for selecting PC presets,or when I go to export, always open to completely wrong pages. For instance the PC preset,ALWAYS opens to the wrong folder/page,and I must re-select the folder/page,with the pre-sets. Again, this is ONLY on the Laptop,my self built desktop, with W7 professional is flawless. The trouble is,I'm finding myself working more on lthe laptop,as I have it hooked via the headphone out,to my stereo, with a couple of old Tannoy "Devon" speakers, that just sound-more open and clear in the high mid/ top end, than the slightly fatiuging KRK Rokits, even at low volume. Also,I can get ridiculously low RTLatency,2ms,from the ASIO4all/Realtek-on board on the Dell, compared to minimum 11.6ms RTLatency with the reliable/clean but only USB 1.1 UA25-EX interface. I honestly find the realtek/ASIO4all sound quality @ 24/48 to be totally fine......I think its those ole Tannoy's. To get a similar RTLatency with my desktop,I'll need to at the very least, upgrade to an RME Babyface, unless the Roland QuadCapture is really that much better than the UA25-EX,which,I find myself doubting? Anyway, exporting problems,as its your first,or earliest attempts at exporting,I think you'll find, the more you do it the more you'll learn the idiosyncrasies,of such things in X1,at least I have.
