Can't export midi
I have a midi drum track I want to export from Sonar, but it doesn't have the option. When I highlight the midi, go to file>export the midi option is greyed out.
Is there a special secret handshake I need to know in order to do a midi export?

You can just drag it out to the browser, I use to have a folder in the media browser set up for various things. (Unless its changed, I haven't bothered to update Platinum in many months)

Just tried that and got an error saying it couldn't be moved... But it moved it anyway. When I tried earlier it just moved one snare hit. Odd stuff.

Rather than highlighting the midi, have you tried highlighting the track itself ? Click on the track number to select the track. Bflat5
Just tried that and got an error saying it couldn't be moved.
Any chance you are running sonar as Administrator ?

Clicking the track highlights the midi. Both ways give the same results, though. Same with running as Admin. Strange things have been happening with Sonar here lately. Seems to be specific to this machine though.

Okay, I think you might be misunderstanding one small thing.
In order to use the File/Export midi function, it has to be a midi groove clip.
Using the File > Export > MIDI Groove Clip command
To export normal midi clips, drag them to the browser.
Not sure why it isn't working on your end. Im on the latest update and both functions worked as normal (drag and drop + Midi groove clip export).

Oh ok... That would definitely be the problem. Thanks. I don't know why midi gives me headaches, but what is the difference between the two, midi and midi groove clips?

Midi clip is just what it is. a midi clip. A midi groove clip can be stretched to repetitive amounts. For example: A midi groove clip that is 4 bars= 1 measure long, you can grab the lower end of the clip and drag it. It will repeat the 4 bar loop over and over again. this comes in very handy when you have a chorus that uses the same hook over and over again. You don't have to copy/paste 4 measures. you simply make 1 measure, turn it in to a groove clip and stretch it to gain the other 3 measures. With midi its a piece of cake(walk)  . but with Audio, you need to make sure you have correct beats entered or it will have artifacts. But audio groove clips have value as they retain pitch and/or BPM value. So there's a small lesson for you my friend  . hope that helped. PS- oh and a good way to tell the difference between a regular midi clip and a midi groove clip (or audio) is a midi clip has smooth, fine edges. A midi groove clip has divots, embedded marks to signify beats. aesthetically they look different.
