Can't export video from Sonar 8 Pro.

Hey folks,
I imported an .mov, muted its audio track, and built a composition of my own to match the video. It looks and sounds superb in preview, but I can't export the dang thing. Most of the time (no matter what file format or compression scheme I've chosen) I get the error message:

"Unable to export video. The disk may be full or an error may have occurred while processing. If you are using compression, a selected compressor may be incompatible. One or more arguments are invalid"

Most of the time the message appears right after the audio renders and before the video renders. On a few occasions, the whole process appeared to work: audio rendered, then video rendered, then no error message- but I could not find the finished rendered file anywhere on my hard drive.  For the record- the hard drive isn't nearly full.

Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated.
Cheers,
William

Are you trying to export to a .mov? I've never had much luck with Sonar exporting video except to .avi files.  But Sonar isn't a video app and there are better ways to get your soundtrack back into a video than Sonar.

If you're going back to a .mov, just export the soundtrack as a .wav file and then use Quicktime Pro to add the wav to your mov.  You would first use QTPro to remove the original soundtrack and then add in your new soundtrack. We do that here all the time and it works well.

Hey Tarsier, thanks for the input. I'd still like to hold out for a possible solution before purchasing more software to accomplish what Sonar 8 purports to do. I know it's not really a vid app, but there is an export video option and hopefully somebody around here can help me to get it to work.

I think you are better off talking Tarsier's advice.  Microsoft Movie Maker,  QTPro,  Sony Vegas are all cheap and betterways to work with picture.   Output a stereo  wav from Sonar and drop it in one of these programs.  That is a much better way to work.  Unless you think this is the last time you will work with picture.

This is exactly what I would do anyway.

I remember having trouble exporting to .mov format when I first got SHS7. I was able to do it but had to find the right compression formats for the video and audio. Cakewalk just throws everything together with no regard to what is compatible with what. That's just fracking lazy and thoughtless. I wish I could remember what settings I used but I can't. I do remember that I found the right settings by looking at the properties of the original .mov file and used those same settings when I exported the video.
