Can't get snap working in PRV HELP
Hi all, I can't seem to get snap working in the PRV, Yes it is turned on I adjust the resolution from 1/16 to 1/8 nothing, trying turning it off and on, nothing. Trying turning on MIDI landmarks nothing. My magnetic settings are set to Hi and nudge is set to follow snap settings... what am I doing wrong?

Magnetic strength settings. Off is the strongest, High is the weakest, yeah I know.

I had this problem today. My magnetic strength was on high, but nothing was snapping at all in PRV. I then set it to off, just as FBB said and it worked. However, after doing that, I went back to "high" and it was working , too. Go figure ! Think I will just keep it off, since I really see no reason for the high setting. Ron

Ron I've noticed that this feature is inconsistent with me, as well. Considering all the complaints and misunderstanding of this feature, I think it would behoove CW to rethink the magnetic strength feature of Snap and make it more logical and consistent.

The magnetic strength setting used to be stored per screenset, therefore every time you started a new project it would revert back to the template setting. If you swapped screensets it could also change depending on your settings. However that doesn't seem to be the case in X1b.

Yeah I agree. Surely "High" magnetic strength should mean the attraction is higher or stronger and "Off" should mean there's no attraction or it doesn't snap. Not the other way round.

Ah yes, the dreaded "magnetic strength" problem. As is said on this thread, the programming is exactly the opposite of what's logical. To do any work where you need things to snap - you Have to have magnetic strength off. This issue is really at the top of the most often asked questions, since the way the program's designed is not intuitive. ---I do recommend doing as much work as possible with snap off. Keep slightly off-beat notes stay where they are if you played the track/clip. Don't worry too much about getting things precisely right if you're inserting your notes. Instant "humanization."-- But of course some styles of music, like Electronica, usually call for the robotic "computerized" sound the snap function gets you in PRV. Randy B.

Randy, so by "off", I take it you mean Low ? Not actually off in preferences. Ron

The 'off' feature turns only the magnetic strength 'off' - your snap stays 'on' or 'off' as determined by the snap setting. Actually makes sense after reading a thousand threads from a thousand users and having it explained a thousand times - at least it took me a thousand times.

rloseven Randy, so by "off", I take it you mean Low ? Not actually off in preferences. Ron Hey, I answered you an hour ago - but my post didn't show up. --? User error on my part I guess. The answer is that by "Off" I mean Off - Actually Off in preferences. Only with it off do you get full magnetism, actual full-tilt snap-to the way you expect it. The other choices are degrees of snap-toishness - all weaker than Off. Larry--hehe, good, funny post from you. It took a thousand times for it to sink in because the programming choice is exactly backwards of what it should be. I guess I can picture them thinking, "OK, so we have full on snap-to. But what about adding the choice of having degrees of magnetism?"--And so they came up with that menu of choices, - but the results are illogical, because "low" to "strong" looks like all the possible degrees of magnetism, when actually Off is what most of us need and want - just plain old Snap To! - Randy

OK, I was getting Snap off and magnetism off mixed up there for a minute. I've got it now, at least for the rest of today. I think maybe Abbott and Costello had some hand in designing this particular feature. Ron
