Can't hear metronome...

I just upgraded to X3 and cannot seem to hear the metronome... the settings seem correct... I open the same file in my Sonar LE program, and the metronome works fine... there must be a setting I'm missing, but I can't find it.

Problem solved, just applied the X3d patch and now I have the metronome... not sure what the relation is, but there you go.

IIRC X3d update re-personalizes SONAR. During re-personalization, the audio files associated with the metronome were copied into your user directory. These files were probably not copied into the user directory during the initial installation.

So what directory do the metronome files need to be in? I have multiple directories in my user profile directory, the install directory and I lost the metronome function after applying the patch yesterday.

    your user directory\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\your SONAR Version\Metronome
The easiest way to restore the files is start SONAR while holding down the SHIFT key. The re-personalization process will add any files missing from the user directory.

I checked that dir and the files are there and I can play them but the Metronome doesn't work. I have to use a midi number and port. I will try the Shift key and see what happens.

No luck with the reperosonalization. I held shift down, it prompted me it was going to repersonalize then I opened my project and nothing, the files are in the path above and I can play them but to use the metronome I have to use a midi number.

Sad, it was working before I applied the patch...

Usually, if the files are present and the metronome does not play, it is because the output is not routed correctly. The default normal project template has a bus called Metronome which is shown in the illustration below from http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR%20X3&Lang=EN&Req=Dialogs2.069.html

Yep I tried that as well, it was set to metronome initally, then I tried routing to master and main out among other busses but nothing.

I even moved the directory out of my roaming profile so it was gone, I checked the metronome options and noting was available then I put it back and I could see the sound files again in Sonar but it still didn't sound or kick off the 2 bar count in.

Is this a problem with a new project using the original normal project template?

Then I renamed the original X3 metronome dir to "X3 metronome" then copied the X2 version over, tried that, when it didn't work I repersonalized it again and still nothing. Metronome only works if I use another midi device.

Maybe if I have time later I will try rerunning the patch. Lost a lot of time on this already. Makes me miss the days I had my ESQ-1, a drum machine and maybe one other sound source. I was way more productive.

I started work on a new project tonight. I tried it by opening an existing project and had the same issue...

Running the re-personalization more than once should not change anything. There is a more forceful version which resets some registry entries and overwrites files in the user directory. It is run by holding the CTRL and SHIFT keys while starting SONAR. FYI, the process overwrites the AUD.ini, Cakewalk.ini, Master.ins and TTSSEQ.INI so make a backup of the directory to save any mods. I doubt running this process will fix the problem but cannot rule it out. Try a different metronome output routing.

No dice. I did the CTRL & Shift at start up after backing up the Dir and nothing. I then tried to change the outputs and no luck there either. It will only work if I use a midi note.

I'm reawakening this thread because this has been a constant battle for me... sometimes the Metronome works just fine, then the next time I go to record I spend the first hour of the session fighting to be able to hear it. All the settings look right, always, should be pretty straight-forward... sometimes I can only hear it through the headset, sometimes not at all... if I choose MIDI, the click is recorded on the track I'm using that doesn't help. I could just record several minutes of that and use it, but I don't prefer it, I really would like to figure out how to use my audio Metronome consistently. I can hear my keyboard just fine... any more thoughts? I can't imagine having to reinstall the X3 patch occasionally as a solution.
