Can't select clips or adjust fades

Yet another day of Sonar doing something ridiculous. I recorded several takes of a guitar part. Each time I did so, I muted the previous take and repeated. The intention was that I'd comp them together at the end.

Because I had the take lanes collapsed, Sonar decided to apply arbitrary crossfades across the whole length of the clip. Annoying, but whatever, I'll just remove that at the end.

Except now it won't let me select the handle to do this. The most recent clip is fine, but the others just show the split/crossfade icon (or whatever that is), and don't show the fade handles. I can't even click to select the clip.

Why should some of the clips act differently to others? Why are there these fades at all? What am I supposed to do to fix this? Delete the whole lot and start again, hoping it'll turn out differently?

Layers worked fine. Clip lanes are an absolute disaster.

I'm just utterly sick of things like this ruining my productivity. 5 minutes tracking, 10 minutes trying to fight Sonar, then 10 minutes having to write a forum post like this in the hope someone can fix it.

A couple of thoughts for you. You must have recorded in "comping" mode. so that new lanes were created when you recorded.  I have had the cross fades across the whole clip thing happen when I adjusted a clip that had other clips overlapping in other lanes. When in "comping" recording mode you don't have to mute your previous takes. Sonar will do this for you.

Now that you have the multiple lanes and want to get rid of the fades here are two ideas. Select all of the clips by lassoing them or shift/control clicking them. Then on the top clip that you can get to the fade handle adjust the fade while holding cntrl (I think, I am not at my DAW right now). This should adjust all the fades of all selected clips at the same time. You may have to drag the fade all the way to the other end and then back.

The other idea is get the "I" icon on one of the clips and click and drag across the clip for some distance. This should create a comping section and may get rid of the cross fades. You can then put your mouse over the split to get the crossfade icon and then drag the cross fade all the way to one end.

Hope one of those helps.

No, I didn't, but the creation of new lanes isn't the issue here.

Yeah, that worked. I had to drag each handle way beyond the extent of the clip to get it to register movement at all, but eventually got it to work. And then, I was able to select the clips - because apparently the reason it would only show me the crossfade tool is because there was a fade there. Hiding the actual fade handles so it was hard to fix the clips was just the obnoxious icing on the cake.

Thanks for your help.
