Cannot Edit Notes In Staff View
Hey Cakewalkers, Ok. I have really tried being open to my upgrade from Sonar LE to Professional, but this is ridiculous. I composed some music a week ago using the staff view. Now when I open the file, I cannot move or edit SOME of the notes - others move or edit just fine. I try dragging them down and they pop back to their original position, yet other notes drag just fine. I have tried using the draw tool or by using the note properties. I cannot erase the notes either. Yet other notes can be moved or extended or deleted or whatever with no problems. What's the deal? I would appreciate any help. I'm getting to the point where I'm going to delete Professional and install my working and familiar SE version with its functioning snap to grid on the staff view. This is just so frustrating. I just want to make music, you know? Thanks, Jim

Locked clips? Check for a lock icon in the upper left corner of the clip in the track view.

Brundlefly, Thanks for posting but no, it's not locked. It's crazy. Certain notes will not edit at all while the notes right next to them will. All I'm trying to do is fix a couple of errors in some sharped and flatted notes. For the life of me it makes no sense. I realize there is a bit of a learning curve when you upgrade but it has been difficult to say the least. When I got the SE version of Sonar (a jump from my old Guitar Studio 2) it was simple to figure out, and really I am only trying to do things like I used to do them. Punching in notes on a staff. I've come to find out that snap-to-grid doesn't work on the staff view (which it does perfectly in SE) which has really slowed my process down, and now I can't save a file and come back and edit it? Smh... Thanks again though for the suggestion. Jim

Well, I opened the clip(s) in step sequencer mode and was able to move the notes. However, the original notes remained in place. Fortunately, I was able to delete them. But still, why wouldn't they edit in the staff view when notes literally right beside them would? Oh well.... Jim

I still say that myself, maybe 250 hours into Platinum. Trying to love it but it does throw up its share of quirks.

JimGore Well, I opened the clip(s) in step sequencer mode and was able to move the notes. However, the original notes remained in place.
Step Sequencer doesn't allow moving notes, only deactivating cells and activating others. So that's as expected, and not related to whatever problem you were having in the Staff View. In any case, the better alternative to editing in the Staff View would be the Piano Roll View rather than the Step Sequencer. If you can share a copy of the original problem project somewhere, I'd be interested in having a look. Or PM me for an e-mail address if you're interested in sending it to me to see if I can figure out what went wrong.

Maybe its just the AI of SONAR telling you you shouldn't move those particular notes if you want the song to be popular.
