Yup on cycling the interface - in some situations, it seems to be about the only thing short of a reboot that frees up resources when that happens.
It's been that way for quite some time, meaning it spans multiple releases of Sonar, though I do not know if it is a Sonar thing, a Windows thing, an interface thing, or what.
I do know that many many folks have had WAY better stability once they moved to either switch over to all 64-bit third-party plugins, or at least convert/eliminate as many 32-bit ones as possible from use in 64-bit Sonar.
I think also that if you are having trouble opening old 32-bit projects in 64-bit Sonar, that it would benefit you to install a 32-bit X3e, for purposes of being able to open those project up to either export things, or freeze tracks, or make whatever changes needed to be able to get them working in 64-bit Sonar.
Your 32-bit projects should be able to open in 32-bit Sonar, if the issues are something to do with them trying to run in 64-bit fashion.
