Cannot Record Online Audio, Why?

I have Sonar Producer 5.  I have M-Audio 2626 connected to my computer via FireWire.
I can record MIDI and Audio through the 2626 on tracks in my Sonar program.  They also play back fine over my studio monitors.

My problem:  I cannot record audio from YouTube onto a track in Sonar.  The sound comes through the 2626 fine, I hear it using my headphones.  But Sonar is dead, no indication of "any" signal.

What am I doing wrong?

Can you use the delta mixer to route the outputs back to a set of inputs ?  On sound blaster type cards you can just check a box to record "what you hear" but on pro interfaces you have to use the software mixer and route it and adjust the level.

While you are doing this set Sonar to 44.1 for that project and set your project main output bus to a different output pair so you don't get feedback.

    Open Options>Audio>Drivers in Sonar.
Do you see any unchecked inputs that show wave, aux, or something similar?
If so, check them, then select the appropriate input for your audio track.
I can record streaming audio this way using my E-MU0404, with the input and routing set up in Patchmix.
I'm not sure what you have to work with on the 2626

It appears my Delta driver is not engaged.  I go to the window and nothing works.  The mixer input meters are "on" but nothing happens.  In hardware my sample rate is 44.1.  In the patchbay/router: H/W Out S/PDIF is "on" and I have a bullseye in H/W In 1/2.

In Audio Options in Sonar I am using ASIO.  The only Input Drivers Highlighted are M-Audio ProFire ASIO FW 2626 Analog 1 - 4.

There are others listed like: M-Audio Delta ASIO Analog In 1 Delta-P192 (1) but they will not "Highlight",  they remain gray.

    I appreciate your help.

When I engage the M-Audio 2626 (turn it on before starting the computer) it becomes the source.  If I start the computer without turning the 2626 on I do not see any other sound cards or operational devices.  Then in a Sonar track for recording Audio the "I" (input) shows "none". and I have no others listed.

What can I try next?  Or what do I need to change to use the Delta?

As petty as it may sound, I think that would be referred to as theft.

Another option is to record using another software package that has the "what you hear" option. Most on board sound cards come with a recorder/ editor too. Then there is the windows sound recorder which is in your accessories. It generally will record what your hearing, not sure it's anything great, but anything coming off u tube is already compressed to death, And yes you are probably already aware that recording copywriten material is illegal, my take on that is, if your worried about people stealing your material then don't put it on the internet.

Another way to get youtube audio is: download it using Realplayer or search for "youtube downloader" (both are free, but some videos cannot be downloaded) then use Realplayer to convert the audio to MP3.
As others have noted, however, be aware of violating copyright. If you can't download it, using those two programs, you shouldn't be ripping that video.

Hello, i hope that i am not too late to join your discussion. How about utilizing online audio recorder to record online songs, audio or any sound you like? Perhaps this will be a handy way, you won't get into any legal trouble.

Hi, you could try other available ways to record youtube audio on the internet. You might go to use "record what you hear" program, windows sound recorders, Audacity and Realplayer.
