Cannot connect keyboard
Drivers-check (this keyboard doesnt need drivers)
Power-check
Cord secure-check
Works in other DAWs-check
But why won't it show up in MIDI>Devices?? It's a MasterKey49. I have X2 Studio. Plz help.

Does it show up in Windows Device Manager? What version of Windows and Sonar? 32- or 64-bit?

Um I haven't looked, but it works with FL Studio. I'll look at it in a bit. I have Sonar 64 bit.

The only thing I can think of is that you don't have a 64-bit driver loaded for the keyboard. Do you have 32-bit Sonar also installed? If so, try it and see if it sees the keyboard. If the keyboard doesn't have a 64-bit driver, you may only be able to use it with 32-bit Sonar. My guess is your FL Studio is not 64-bit and that's why it sees it.

I understand, but I'm also confused. My Masterkey does not have drivers. It says it runs automatically. And just to confirm what you saying: Keyboard and X2 must be 32-bit right. And btw I believe my sonar is 64-bit. I'll get 32 and try again. http://www.acorn-instrume...-keyboards/masterkey49 A link to Acorn Instruments site, where it says the keyboard doesn't need drivers.

I would go through the obvious, plug it in/start sonar x2 go to midi devices, look for your device.
worst comes to worst, unplug the keyboard while sonar is open/did you get a message saying it has been plugged in and do you want this device added?

When I do that it does say a "device" is in, but it doesn't say MasterKey nor does it show up in the box

Do you see such a device listed in your MIDI Devices list?

What are you talking about? The audio/interface is what shows up as a MIDI device in Sonar, not a keyboard. Any keyboard can be used transmitting on a MIDI Channel.

Ok so I got 32-bit Sonar, but it still doesn't show up in the devices list :(

For me the normal process has been. Turn on computer.
Plug in the new USB device. Windows will pop up the notification that it has found a new USB device. It will automatically deal with it and end of story.
Then you boot Sonar and it will now be a new device on the MIDI list of in/outs.

That's excalty what I thought, but its not in the list. (Yes my keyboard is USB)

Can't think of what is wrong as this always works. Once windows recognizes the keyboard, which it must have if you can use it elsewhere, Then Sonar adds it to the list.
You might have to contact support as I can't find any reference to toggling this as a feature.

IIRC, that's not the case when you use a USB-connected keyboard (which was confirmed in a later post). The audio interface may not even have a MIDI connection. To the OP: Have you tried different USB-ports? Could this have something to do with USB 2/3 differences? Is Mastekey USB-powered and are you using a laptop? If so, it's possible the keyboard does not get enough power from the USB port.

T OK so-the OP said in first post that the keyboard works with other DAWs, -this is a big clue- and later mentioned when unplugged and plugged in Sonar acknowledged a "device"
but still simply does not list it as a MIDI device.
Masterkey 49 is easy to connect. One USB cable handles data transfer to your computer and also provides the power. It's also USB class compliant, so driver installation is not needed. All you have to do is switch the power button to On!

Last post went haywire on me after I copied and pasted from the Acorn keyboard site.
Anyhow the problem is narrowed down to a strange behaviour that normally is an automatic action on behalf of Sonar.
My Yamaha drums which are also a simple plug and play USB connection include in manual the fact that some DAW's might not recognize them and they provide a download driver. I didn't need it, but it makes me wonder if some devices Do need drivers for some DAWS.

Ok so I got 32-bit Sonar, but it still doesn't show up in the devices list :( Someone else had a similar problem recently and it was a conflict with another USB device. Disconnect all USB devices except mouse and keyboard and see if that helps. Make sure you're USB keyboard is plugged into a USB jack on the computer, not on a hub.
