Cannot get SPITFISH to work

Ok,    I have tried several times to use SPITFISH to de-ess some things and I have yet to be able to get it to do anything.

I have inserted it on vocal tracks and guitar tracks to play with but cannot get it to do anything.  What I mean is that if I click "listen" I never hear any signal, just silence.  I move the sensitivity to both extremes, sweep the frequency, click on the stereo button ect. and can never here anything in "listen" mode or hear it doing anything to the track when not in listen mode.

Is there some visual indication in the GUI if it is seeing a signal?
Does it matter if the plug-in is in my Program Files or Program Files (x86)?

Any ideas.  Thanks

Does it have a threshold setting for when the signlas crosses it, it starts efecting it? Is there an EQ frequncy range that needs to be set?

Sure, x86 is for soanr 32bit

Yes it has all of those but nothing I do seems to make it function.

I will move them to Program Files (x86) since I think they are 32 bit but I am doubtfull this has anything to do with it.

I think it was w/ spitfish that the frequency setting was off.  You might want to run a search on this forum.   And as I recall it needed a strong signal to trigger.

Lastly, there probably isn't too much hf in a guitar that would need supressing.

Spitfish needs a fairly hot signal. It will simply not respond if the track is too quiet, even with the sensitivity turned all the way up. When it works, it works well, though.

Even it it crosses the threshold? That must be a major flaw in that plugin

So you are saying the plugin is useless unless I make the input sigle hotter?  Any other de-essers you would recommend?

I use a normal compressor with a sideband filter (Fabfilter Pro-C) when I use a de-esser at all. In extreme cases I go old-school with a highly compressed, heavily EQ'd copy of the vocal routed into a compressor's sidechain (you can use the bundled Sonitus Compressor for this). But 9 times out of 10 I prefer to use volume automation, which, though more work, almost always yields better results than any plugin can achieve.
