Cannot get X2 serial number to work
Hi
I have put an e-mail to customer support ,but will not get a reply before end of Monday perhaps.
I have got rid of Sonar X1 and also the bits left over In the registry to make a clean install.
I have succsessfully loaded up the first X2 disc and serials for Rapture which is on same first disc.
I have registered my product and ran as administrator,but my serial number which was e-mailed to me does not want to work.
I have tried several times now without success.
I would love to get this business out of the way today to get the rest of the package loaded.
Has anyone got any pointers or have I been given a useless code for my serial number

Hi John,
I know you say that your serial was e-mailed to you, but have you checked your online Cakewalk account? Just in case the reg and serial differ in some way... it may be worth checking.

Rightclick the X2 icon on the desktop. Then select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. The click APPLY. I assume that box is not permanently checked. Once that is done I assume you can get X2 registered. Sorry to hear of your troubles... You can however use X2 unregistered. And wait untill Cakewalk gets back to you. I do hope however this will fix your issue.

Yea, click on the Cakewalk Store tab (above) and log into your account, compare the serial numbers from there.

You can however use X2 unregistered.
Erm... I don't think you can. I don't think they have yet released a "demo" or thirty day trial version of X2, have they? If my poor brains recall, you need the reg code before you can even install the software, so if that doesn't match you don't even get the chance to install it.

I have looked on my Account and my serial number Is different to my serial number on THE COMPLETE REGISTRATION box.
I cannot delete that number on screen as It Is blanked offYou can only enter the REG code.
my music computer Is an offline machine
What has happened Is---
I purchased Sonar X2 off of ET Cetera In the UK and they forwarded me my reg codes In advance so as I could get my HD Orchestra download down In time before It expires.
I succsessfully entered codes and got my free download for HD Strings for Dimension Pro
I am wondering when they gave me the codes ,they sent me a different Sonar X2 and the one I registered with Cakewalk has gone somewhere else.
Well My Serial number Is different to the one one MY ACCOUNT

I think you my be able to fix this issue by changing something in the registry. Not that I would recommend anyone to do that sort of thing of course. And I could be so wrong with this, so don't pay much attention to me...

Yeah, a shame that.
I suppose you got the disks because your internet is pants?
If it were me, I think I'd try uninstalling X2 and then download the X2 program files and then try to install from those.
But it might just be easier to wait until you get hold of Cakewalk support, providing you have the patience to wait (I haven't by the way lol).

Oh, I know others have mentioned this here, but have you tried to run the installation program by "run as administrator" by any chance? I'm wondering if that will enable the reg code box to become un-grayed?? Might be worth a try...

Hi
I got the disc for same price on upgrade ,so It Is good to have a hard copy ,but I will Norton Ghost everything when all Is sorted
The box Is still greyed out and If I go to Regedit and then to hkey local and ,software .X2,the serial Is there .
I changed It to the one on My Account and It popped up In the greyed box.
More frustration now as that did not work
I will have to wait for the techies to get back to work on monday!!!

You can download them anytime. Its just once you start, you have like 300 hours to complete that download. If you don't finish it, you will have to start over, but it will give you another one to download and another 300 hours to complete it.

I cannot delete that number on screen as It Is blanked offYou can only enter the REG code. That sounds to me like you didn't Run As Administrator on the installation file. Even if you are logged on as administrator, you still have to Run As Administrator for it to work.

hi daveny I put sonar X2 disc In drive and ran the disc. Once Sonar was up and running ,I closed down after unsuccessfully trying to input the serial and then right clicked to run as administrator. Have I got to run the Installation as administrator ?? I put disc In and It autoran to start. The other thing Is that the serial In the greyed out box In X2 Is different to the serial In MY ACCOUNT Today has nearly gone by and support have not replied yet . It probably takes them two days. all the best John

I got the Hd Orchestra because I had purchased X2 before deadline 31st October Just tell support that your machine Is broken and I am sure they will put things right for you.

- Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer X2 and double-click Serial Number
- Delete the value data (leave it blank)
- Rerun the install as Administrator
- When asked during the install, enter the serial number from your Store Account
The install should complete, then when you run X2 for the first time it should ask for the registration code - also from your Store Account. I had an issue installing X2 when I had a partial install of X1 hanging around, and this cleared it for me. I hope you get it sorted soon and can start making music again!

HI LUTEMAN I will give that ago and get back. Thanks for the advice I have tried all avenues now and no luck. I think that because my serial number does not match In MY ACCOUNT the Reg code Is wrong. I will have to wait for supports reply which I hope will be at the least tomorrow sometime as I really want to configure everything ,so I can re- Norton Ghost my drive. Thanks to everyone that tried to help me out here
I got a little fed up with waiting for a reply from support and had a brainwave!!!
I re-registered Sonar X2 and bingo,It worked
I have again Informed support and now I can say that the manager at ET Cetera In the uk Forwarded my Serial number so as I could get my Free HD Orchestra download In time before the deadline
a GREAT GESTURE OF GOODWILL .
A person In there warehouse must have sent me a different copy to the one with original serial numbers In.
NOW!! "To the Bat Cave Robin"!!!!!!! "Holy Cakewalk"!

Cakewalk support have still not replied to me since Sunday
