Cannot open ARX MIDI ports

When I try to open X1P, I get the error "Cannot open ARX MIDI ports."  I don't even know what ARX MIDI ports is.  Running Win7, and using a UM-2EX adapter to connect my Casio keyboard.  I also get an error pop-up that says I don't have my MIDI devices connected properly, but I only have the one, and the output is to the MS GS Wavetable.  Pretty basic set-up.  The only help topic I can find says deselect the ARX device, but that isn't even listed.  What am I doing wrong?

What audio driver are you using and for what audio interface?

I only have the onboard soundcard which has almost no real interface -- just says High Definition Audio Device/Manufacturer Microsoft.  The adapter for the keyboard is an Edirol.

That is why you have that error message. You need a better audio card. That way you can stop using the MS synth too.

Its your audio driver that is causing the message because its looking for a device you don't have.

I know that this sounds weird but it is the reason.

Ah.  Thanks for the help.  I have been thinking about getting a better sound card.  I use no instruments except the keyboard, and only use virtual processing, but I do digitize old LPs occasionally for myself.  Could you suggest a suitable sound card?  Thanks.

That all depends on what you want. A quality card wont break the bank.  Roland makes good ones. Beepster just did a nice thread on the one he got a Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 and he likes it a lot.            http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2593692
